Low-wage work force grows 30% as number of jobs shrinks
Low-wage workers in Chicago are better educated, older and rely more on that income these days to meet basic needs than 10 years ago.

nd there are substantially more of them.

That’s according to a new report released by Chicago-based Women Employed and Action Now Institute that shows nearly one in six low-wage workers here last year held a college degree.

The report, authored by Marc Doussard, assistant professor in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning, defines low-wage workers as those making $12 an hour or less.

The report revealed the share of payroll employees ages 18 to 64 working in low-wage jobs rose from 23.8 percent in 2011 to 31.2 percent last year. That’s a more than a 30 percent rise in the proportion of such workers.

Meanwhile the share of households with a low-wage earner that got all income from low-wage earnings rose from 45.7 percent to 56.7 percent. That’s evidence more people are relying more on those dollars to meet basic needs rather than for disposable income.

30 years of globalization and free trade has bankrupted the western world.

I don't see what Obama has to do with that though, if you want to change that don't vote either Democrat or Republican but independent (although I am uncertain what the protectionist options are in the US), since both are heavily in favor for free trade and globalization (and from my perspective the democrats are slightly less bad at this Republicans, due to the fact they don't union bust and aren't as against minimum wages as the Republicans are).

Well, there appears to be a bit of a GNP gusher out the back door.
Of course this is part of our rogue gov'ts plan unless you want to call it just god's way of punishing us.

Obama ignores it.
Romney delights in it.

What else do ya need to know. Keep dwelling on politics while others get productive and dumpster dive.

This is exactly why there is one man who can change these numbers by simply adding his name to the list of unemployed.

Re: Low-wage work force grows 30% as number of jobs shrinks
Original post is interesting -- $12 as the upper limit for low wage jobs in Chicago. My sister has held a responsible job in a hospital in WV for 4 years coordinating staff training and creating training materials and she makes $11.50. I was offered $25K to drive around the mountains and try to find jobs for people (on my own gas money). Since I had a relevant Masters degree, I said no thanks and moved elsewhere. And the recruiter thought I was a fool to turn down such a good job.

One city's low wage is another city's luxury.

Another idiot - Clinton sold us out with NAFTA, BUSH I and II were globalists, Obama +3 free trade agreements. Stimulus is a band aid on a gushing wound. There are not jobs in the US - the MONEY shipped them out for more money. It's called greed.

A man who gets it! Obama is just the latest puppet - 3 more free trade agreements left on his desk by BUSH . Republicans and democrats both passed the globalist agenda - Clinton the biggest traitor of them all gave us NAFTA.
