Re: GLP, who here can actually FIGHT?
My dad made fight training a mandatory part of our education growing up. We could choose what we wanted though.

From age 5 I have taken Tai Kwan Do, Sho To Kan, Riu Jitsu, Kempo, and I boxed through highschool since my dad was an accomplished boxer during his youth.

I mastered none of the arts but I did each for a couple years and gained lot's of technique from each style. I excelled at boxing due to martial arts.

I have been in many street fights as a result of confidence. I have only lost one fight where I was jumped by 7 blacks during a racial conflict in the military. I put two of them in the hospital before I took my licks.

I have knocked out a couple of dudes with one punch. My father was a knockout artist as well as one of my uncles. Yea, an uncle, i know. He recently knocked out a 23 yr old loud mouth when he was 90!

I'm 6'3" 220 lbs and i'm in shape. Older now though. Recently took a year of Krav Maga which I reccommend to non-fighter types. It's a relatively fast way to learn some defense.

Nowadays I walk away from fights. I've gained inner peace in my older age (38) and see no point in injuring some jack ass just to make a point.

But a couple years ago some black guy grabbed my wife's ass in a bar and out of anger i really hurt the guy. I didn't say a word to him, just attacked. I broke my hand on his jaw. Also broke his jaw. Knocked him out with one punch and sent him flying across a table. I walked over and stomped his face and chest in with all my strength. He will feel that event for the rest of his life.

My advice: always strike with an open palm. Never punch someone's head with a closed fist.

Only fight when it is in defense of yourself or someone else. Never fight to defend your ego. I regret every man i've injured because of a pissing match. But those who got physical in anyway deserved what they got. You draw the line as soon as they physically touch you. That's when you attack. Be quick as lightning and focus all of your power and you'll never lose.

Reality check:
I was recently involved with trying to help a friend of our families kick their 24 year old (drug addicted) son out of their home. When I arrived he was in a fit of rage, cursing out his mom, throwing objects at her car etc. When I stepped in to assist I got a reality check....What I mean is this guy was cranked up on bath salts, he might weigh 150lbs. His strength and rage where off the charts.
Also, I'm 6'3" (217lbs) hold a second degree in TKD, first degree in both Judo and Jujutsu. I hope I've made my point very clear.
Martial arts are great, but not a cure all:)

yeah it's tricky dealing with those of us who can summon that kind of rage. It's one reason I never worry about getting jumped. I can take punches and give them back twice as hard. as for the druggie I probably would have put one right on his chin and let his nervous system do the rest.

I have black belts in Shotokan and BJJ and have trained for 25 years. Here are three important lessons I learned:

1. There is always someone tougher than me.
2. It is hard to tell how tough someone is by looking at them.
3. Weapons negate decades of unarmed training instantly.

I think it's time to get a consensus of just what kind of men we have here.

Have you ever knocked anybody out?

What's the hardest you've ever been hit and stood standing?

have you practiced any sort of fighting discipline and if so how much success have you had with it.

thanks
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16069571

Been knocked out, knocked opponents out. Continued fighting with broken hands, cracked wrist & cracked fibula. You do not feel the pain till it is over.

With that said ... ring fighting skills are good, but there is a reason more advanced martial artists move from the ring into weapons, Ho Sin Sool & Hapkido techniques.

It is good to be fast but it is equally important to be able to fight close Q and develop good grappling techniques.

It is also good to learn to identify readily available weapons that most untrained peeps only see as a common, harmless item just laying about.

GLP has some very well trained male & female fighters, as well as seasoned vets. Sadly, also no shortage of keyboard warriors -- must admit though, a keyboard could be deadly if properly utilized ;o)

Edit:

Oh, you asked for disciplines.

First learned techniques from my Delta Force Father. Then on to Aikido, TaeKwonDo, Hapkido, Ho Sin Sool & Krav Maga.

Practiced a lot on my 3 ornery brothers.

His face immediately turned to an expression of terror when i didn't flinch and proceeded to send him flying 5ft into two other people who went flying along with him. I start raising my fists yelling at him to get up when I feel this HUGE arm go around my throat, thinking one of his friends was trying to jump me I immediately powered out of the chokehold only to see it was a bouncer. We wrestled for a few mins with me getting the better of him and walking out on my own. I'll be dammed if some mofo hauls me out in a chokehold.

Re: GLP, who here can actually FIGHT?
I've been in more fights than I can count on one hand, mainly boxing fights.

I have only knocked out one person, but I've hit people so hard they stumble.

I haven't been knocked out(knocking on wood), but just recently I got into it with some dudes from another hood, about 15 to 18guys and my supposed 2 friends ran off, so I ended up fighting their og, and the dude was like 6'7 and I'm 5'8, so basically he got me with a suckerpunch that didn't knock me but I got a black eye, at the end of the day, I didn't run I run because I was scared I was just outnumbered 15 to 1 so I don't consider that a lost fight.

But till this day I have won all my fights except for when I got jumped, but even when being jumped I don't consider that a loss because I fought on my own.

I'm a 58 man from the south, and can honestly say I have never been in a fight. Hope I can take that record to my grave. It's not like I have avoided fights, just never got into that kind of situation.
