Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24115171 Are there any skills you guys can tell me about, if somebody comes at me with a blade, do i try to kick it out of their hand , or try to grab their arm? What would you guys do? pick something up since now they have taken it to the next level and if you don't have something to pick up put enough distance between you and him that gives you time to take your shirt or sweater and wrap it around your hand. THAT will be you shield and give buy you enough time to break his kneecap with a kick. |

What would you guys do? You need to run. You are not going to be able to effectively defend against a blade until you have reached a minimum of the 1st degree black belt level in an art that teaches weapon defenses. Even as a senior black belt, the defenses used include an expectation of getting sliced. The goal is to make sure the slice you receive is non lethal while it allows you to move in take control of the blade and disable your attacker. maybe you will get lucky & not get cut, but never bet on the come. This is a very dangerous scenario & cannot be taken lightly. Krav Maga has the best weapon defenses in my opinion. It's what made Tyson such a beast in his prime. My kid was having the same problem in football, he's 6'1" and 280lbs yet would get pushed around by smaller guys getting underneath his basket. Once I taught him to SMACK their hands down as they go to grab under his shoulders and then immediately push off on their chest he started beasting the line. |

Most people are very slow to react and you can gain superiority over an armed opponent if you think quick enough. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23176350 Did it make you feel good stamping on someones head mr macho man? wow did you not read his post, for serious fighters its not about ego. I did not feel bad about stomping him. He shouldn't have touched my wife. Honestly, if people weren't around, I most likely would have killed him. So you were ready to go to prison and wreck your life and your marriage over some dude grabbing your wife's ass? Would it have been worth it? Or were you NOT thinking at the time? Most fights are over pretty quick. This particular instance was an act of pure rage. Before the guy even hit the floor I was back on top of him. The whole ordeal was over before most people realized what happened. Probably 8 seconds and he was done. Keep in mind this was no pip squeak and he was most likely carrying a gun. Just some thug from the ghetto. I didn't jump up and down on him. They were well placed kicks. I knew my hand was broken, otherwise I would have beat him more. One of the first lessons I learned in fighting, real life street fighting, is if you put the guy down, make sure he stays down. Make it hurt. It sounds bad to somebody who's never been there but you have to remember that it must be assumed that a street fight is to the death. This isn't the 1940's where there's an honor system. Given the opportunity that low life would have done the same to me. Besides, he assaulted my wife. As far as going to jail? Wasn't worried about it because my standards are clearly defined in my head. Had he never laid a finger on my woman, nothing would have happened. But the second he touched her in that manner constituted physical assault which he was charged with in the hospital. I got a charge to but my lawyer got it dropped. But it gave me the legal right to defend her. |

Here are three important lessons I learned: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1340560 1. There is always someone tougher than me. 2. It is hard to tell how tough someone is by looking at them. 3. Manu-Koelbren User ID: 24402725 Spain 09/27/2012 01:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've been in very few fights in my life. Actually I can think of only 3. First one I was around 14 and some dude provoked me on the street so I asked him if he wanted to fight, which he did. We exchanged a couple of blows and I somehow got some blood on my lip. Then we grappled and ended up in the floor and I ended up on top of the guy threatening him with my fist. I didn't hit him though, I let him go and he came back treacherously and kicked me to the floor before a security guard in the vicinity dispersed us. Then at 17 years old I was in NYC and 3 black dudes tried to mug me. I exchanged some unsuccessful punches and defended well but when I was leaving they came from behind and tried to strangulate me. I dropped whatever I had on my pockets and saved my life. Then when I was around 25 some dude spit at me on my job so I grabbed an iron bar and kicked him to the ground as he was making his way out, then when he stood up I grabbed his glasses and broke them in his face. His tall buddies tried to come at me but I swung the iron bar and hurt his hand. They were off duty cops, they threatened me but after all they left and nothing happened. I also protected some tourists from being violently mugged by gypsies on the subway. I pushed the gypsies out of the subway but there were more inside and they came for me. I adopted a defensive stance and prompted them to come at me, but they chickened out. Then some security guards came and apprehended them. I had a blade at that time too and I thought I would have to use it, but at the end I didn't even get into any fighting. Nowadays I carry a fox karambit blade which is legal over here, folks better think it twice about messing with me. Other than that I did some taekwondo when I was a kid and some box sparring with buddies on the gym (learned to take some punches well). I loved boxing but unfortunately I have some breathing problems and get tired and thirsty too quick, so that made me frustrated and I left it. I still miss those sparrings. Also did a bit of muay thai but the school was too exigent and my shape didn't tolerate it.
