Your petition is a great idea but it can't stop the coming disaster. It can't. Move out of the area. My dad now retired worked in the industry for years. He was a specialist for problems. He's a total brain. Worked all over Canada and the middle east. He says that whole area is a ticking time bomb. They don't have the Technology to fix this. Its way beyond the norms. The ground is collasping all around the area. The gas is travelling where it finds least resistance and can move HUNDREDS OF MILES underground. The pressure of all the gas is too great. Its shattering the ground and causing seismic anomolies. He says he is surprised they haven't began to evacuate people from the area. There is a big gas field there and the whole thing could potentially go up and rip the US a new asshole. It would incompass 200 square miles or more. It would change the whole East Coast forever. I trust what my dad had to say on the topic. Some of my family members are snowbirds and go to Yuma every winter. NONE are going this year. Dad told everybody to stay at home. He says this is bad. First of all, the petition is not OP's...he has graciously posted this thread, so as many people as possible will be able to sign the petition on behalf of Louisiana residents in danger. The point of the petition is to force the government to address this situation in a proper manner, as the residents in the area are not being given proper information, and are largely being ignored. Meanwhile, as the petition circulates, there is a greater propensity for this issue to get discussed to a much wider audience. What's happening in Louisiana may seem like a local issue, but, drilling and fracking and all sorts of assaults on our environment are happening every day, ALL OVER THIS COUNTRY, putting the lives of people in danger. As there is no precedent for handling such a debacle, forcing the government's hand to do a proper, wide-range study, can be a benefit for the handling of future disasters. So....sign the petition. It is a sham and a NO- BRAINER for anyone who has watched the U.S. government in action since KATRINA to think that there is some "MAGIC BULLET" that the feds could produce to save this total fuck-up by the INDEPENDENT STATES OF OIL (ISO).... What harm can it do? Please. Who knows when something similar will be approaching your own backdoor? . Great summary, which reminds me of a folk tale. Once there lived a mouse in a farmers house. The farmer's wife knowing of the rodent places a mouse trap to catch him. The mouse learning of the trap was distraught and went to the chickens saying "the farmer put a mouse trap in the house." The chickens responded "It is of no concern to us," so the mouse went to the pig saying "the farmer put a mouse trap in the house." The pig looked at the mouse and said "Why should I care? It's your problem." So the mouse went to the cow and repeated his message "the farmer put a mouse trap in the house." The cow just mooed and said "I cannot do anything about that. You must take care of it yourself." So the mouse went back saddened that no one cared about the danger it had to live with. One evening, the wife hears the trap snap, and thinking the mouse was finally caught went downstairs into the kitchen. She suddenly feels a sharp burning in her ankle and falls. The farmer comes to her, turns the light on to find a deadly snake was caught in the trap. After dispatching the snake the farmer tries to nurse his wife back to health. He starts with the chickens to make soup for her each day till they were gone. The wife's condition worsens, so the doctor is called. To pay the doctor the pig is sent to the butcher to slaughter for its meat. But to no avail the wife passes away, and the farmer holds a wake serving beef to the grieving guests.
