I don't see anything wrong with their culture.
We need a lot less decadence and low morals and values.
America has turned into a den of iniquity.

These people may wish more freedom of dress, or nightclubs and alcohol. Be careful what you wish for. It is a slippery slope to let the Western culture creep in.

I speak as an American who was jealous of the simple and elegant lives of these people.
They don't have men blaring rap with their pants hanging off.
They don't have thugs and drugs and pierced and tattooed freaks everywhere. Porn at their fingertips and homeless people and filth up to their kneecaps.

Good for them.

Yeah some great images! I've met some Iranians too, they are cool people. At least imminent Iran doom is postponed for a while.

Yes I agree with this. People should be willing to make some personal sacrifices for the sake of a nice and healthy society, but as they aren't we're stuck with governments who have to force us to do it. But governments usually don't stop there and end up enslaving the people. So everything seems to be a slippery slope.

Iranians, their just people with hopes and dreams and aspirations, the same as all the rest of us.

War is about money and the lunatics don't mind killing as many people as it takes to get what they want.

Their is no need for ANY nice people to die, this is all about Greedy, Evil, Megalomaniacs.

The good news is now everyone is becoming aware of them and who's faces talk for them and do their evil deeds.

Now we have to find who are the ones really pulling the strings; who's names and faces we never see.

The correlation between Iran and what Christianity seeks is startling. No alcohol, no half naked women walking around the streets, people take the time out to read literature and go to Mosque. Why do Christians in the US want to destroy Iran yet they support Israel ... the Israelis promote porn, drinking, multi culturalism and all the shit that comes with it.

Seems backwards to me.

Before everyone gets lost in the pretty scenery eye candy do remember the atrocities of sharia law which is alive and well in Iran.

Sharia
Muslim states using classical sharia: Saudi Arabia and some of the Gulf states do not have constitutions or legislatures. Their rulers have limited authority to change laws, since they are based on sharia as it is interpreted by their religious scholars. Iran shares some of these characteristics, but also has a parliament that legislates in a manner consistent with sharia.

The problem with Iran's proposed penal code
But the proposed revisions would still allow judges to sentence child offenders, like Molla-Soltani, to death for other crimes. In 2011, at least 143 child offenders were on death row in Iranian prisons. The new code pegs the age of criminal responsibility to the age of maturity under Sharia law, which in Iranian jurisprudence is 9 for girls and 15 for boys.

Hey this is not meant to propose that we all turn into Iran. Let the Iranians deal with their own destiny themselves. If they want to change Sharia let them get there on their own. But it would be nice to get rid of the influence of the banking elites in the West so we could go begin being sovereign prosperous free nations according to our own cultural traditions.

B.S.... Iran is a beautiful country with beautiful people and a very criminal government.

The Isrealis do a very crappy job of making that distinction... that the problem is the Iranian government.

To a lesser extent, the problem is also the Isreali government -- and the residents of the country are good people.

Same can be said for the Palestinians...

Unfortunately, WE the PEOPLE of all countries, are the ones who are going to suffer for the corruption of our governments.

What is the status of the World Bank Group Program in Iran?

The World Bank has not approved any new lending to Iran since 2005. The Bank is fully compliant with international sanctions on Iran.

International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) financial assistance to Iran currently consists of one loan for a project designed to help Iran's poorest people and to meet basic humanitarian needs. This project was approved in 2005 by the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank, which represents 188 member countries. The project helps support better land and water management in poor rural areas. Funding for this loan was raised on the capital markets.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has no program in Iran at present. Previous investments committed in 2004 and 2005 have recently closed and IFC has no exposure to Iran.

MIGA's program in Iran supports two investors (Japanese and Thai) for an investment in the manufacturing sector. These guarantees were signed in 2005 and no new guarantees have been provided since then.

Does the World Bank Group follow UN sanctions on Iran?

Yes. As an independent United Nations specialized agency and a multilateral development bank, the World Bank Group fully complies with UN sanctions on Iran and reviews payments and contracts under World Bank Group financed projects to ensure that no loan funds are used to finance goods prohibited by the UN sanctions or payments made to designated entities or individuals.

Security Council resolution 1737 (March 2007), while calling on member states and international organizations to refrain from making new financing available to Iran, exempts humanitarian and development activities conducted by international financial institutions from this prohibition.
 Quoting: Manu-Koelbren

Thanks for the info.
Iranians should be glad with these "sanctions".
Maybe some poor people have to suffer more right now, but in the end they are more independent! Good for them.

Forgot to say that, allthough many Iranians are believing muslims, they also know that most converted to islam with the sword on their throat some 1000 years ago and that they as a people did not have the muslim tradition before that.

There are very interesting posts from others too in this thread, tnx all!

Just had an Iranian at the hotel I work at and I spoke to him about this documentary. He told me he doesn't like Islam and that the government there is quite corrupt, but that society functions quite well (pretty much what I deduced from the documentary). He also said he doesn't like government curtailing social freedoms.

Funnily enough some Israeli tourists came over to ask questions while I was speaking to him. The Israeli guy stared at the Iranian guy very badly for a moment. Tense situation.
