Your a pretty smart guy and you really seem to know your stuff. You obviously have been doing this for a long time. "Astronomy" That being said I have seen you resort to calling out people. Telling them they are Liers and taking over peoples threads.I've seen you guys resort to pointing out spelling mistakes and gang up. Push Push Push. There are a few other people on this site that do the same thing. It seems that you all are starting to loose your credibility over your child like behavior somtimes.I'm sure its pretty frustrateing somtimes BUT I think all people no matter what they believe should be treated with respect and not be called names. Wether it be you, your freinds and the other parties involved. When you push people to hard they get mad and some can snap. I guess one snapped.People these days are under alot of stress. You can see it on alot of the threads.

Some ARE liars, that's just how it is. Making a death threat because I called out a lie or debunked something you wanted to believe is not only inexcusable but also illegal. That behavior is NOT my fault.

So long as you do not attribute any of your usernames with your real name or location there's not much to worry about. The internet serves as the perfect platform for cowards to vent things they're too afraid to voice or do in the real world. I wouldn't much worry about it. If the police tried to follow-up on every online death threat they'd virtually be backed up for years doing investigations into things said by 12 and 13 year-old kids just because they cannot handle what another person thinks or because it makes them feel better about themselves.

This problem has been with us since the dawn of the internets.

The Tropical fish list, from back in 1995, had the FBI shut it down because some people sent out bombs made of fishtank chemicals.
They were trying to settle an argument over...tropical fish.

Please take care.

I am seriously challenged when it comes to astronomy and have greatly appreciated your posts. You have been very generous to share your knowledge with all of us.

I am very sorry people feel the need to threaten because you do not buy into all the "death from space" theories.

Hugs to you.

Well that sucks, still unless you start seeing strangers stalking your home or something there's not much to worry about. Can always goto PD file a report and follow up daily or weekly, if you're annoying enough it could get something done. There's also the FBI cyber crime division, I believe there's a report form right on the website for internet related threats and other e-crimes. Hopefully you won't have any problems and these are just nutjobs with too much time on their hands playing tough behind a keyboard.

Bummer, sad to see you go

your posts will be missed

One reason that I have never gone under my real name on the interwebs, the one and only place it appears is in the white pages, but that name and address have never ever been linked in any way to any post I have ever made on the web
even my facebook account isnt me LOL

It's one of the main reasons I have so little time for these clowns that want to make it compulsory to link every post you make online to your real name and address via your ip address- good way to let the stalkers find you easier

Re: It's not worth the death threats...
Yesterday I learned that death threats were being made against me on Flickr by a new user who registered under the screen name "astromutmustdie."
[link to www.flickr.com]

Worse yet, the same person also left a threatening comment for my friend TBar1984 on his Flickr page (which has since been deleted).

Both TBar and I contacted Flickr about this, and though the threatening comment on TBar's photo has since been removed, the picture threatening me that the person uploaded is still there. Neither law enforcement nor Flickr seem particularly interested in doing anything about this, so after careful deliberation I've decided that enough is enough. As much as I have enjoyed being here, as much as I have enjoyed debunking astronomical nonsense, and as much as I have appreciated the friends I've found here, it's not worth the death threats, especially when people I call friends are getting hit by it too. Is this person probably all talk? Probably, but I'm not willing to bet my life on it.

I'm being threatened because some people don't want to hear the truth and feel threatened by it. I'm being threatened by someone who probably believes the government is hiding the truth, but ironically they are the ones trying to suppress the truth which was right in front of them all along. I'm not a "shill" and I'm not a "NASA agent," I'm just an amateur astronomer who speaks the truth, a fact known by those here who know me and those who have met me in person.

I will continue to support the GLP Observatory for as long as that support is desired. I'm not closing my account; I'll continue to participate in GLP Observatory-related threads and I'll gladly respond to any questions anyone has about anything via PM. I may also pop into voice chat now and then. In terms of actively debunking astronomical nonsense in threads though, I'm done.

Certain individuals of low character will probably celebrate this, and I have already been accused of faking the threats myself. Others will simply say I'm over-reacting and it's no big deal, but that's easy to say when you're not the one being threatened. What they fail to realize is that someone from here has silenced a voice for the truth. When there was a real cosmic threat, however remote, I talked about it (for instance, 2012 DA14's risk to satellites). On the other hand, when something wasn't a real threat, I said so even if it wasn't the popular thing to say.

You may not like the fact that Elenin was not a threat to earth, but that was the cold hard truth. You may not like the fact that there was no way 2005 YU55 was going to hit the earth or moon, but again, that was the cold hard truth. I'm sure much will be said in the coming year about comet C/2012 S1 ISON which isn't true, but this time I will not be here to help debunk it. I'm sure many others will though, and to them I say thanks and good luck.

It just goes to show how delusional the doomsayers are. Your posts scare the shit out of them because they can't counter with anything other than to threaten people. Personally, I wouldn't have left but we each must make our own choices.

What can I say, except it sucks when people cling so tightly to their delusion that they feel threatened enough to threaten Astro for bringing concrete proof to debunk silliness. Where others here bring honey dipped bullshit, innuendo, word salad and base their truth on "feelings" and dreams, or youtube videos or the latest proclamation of some internet scam artist, Astro always brings evidence in the form of real images and live web casts to the table. The ones that threaten you, Astro are probably posting somewhere about how they are evolved beings, chosen in some way by advanced ETs or angels or some other bullshit. They would rather defend their delusion and force it on everyone else than look at what you bring and appreciate the marvels of the universe, which is far more fantastic and real than any of their imaginings.

Take a break Astro, but don't stay away too long. Most of us appreciate you, most of the people that attack you are cowards and not true threats, and then there are the Stevies of the world. Shame on the ones that have forced you to start this thread. Evolved beings on a mission indeed! Not!!

Astro. Please don't leave us. We need you!

I posted this on another thread in response to a lame post by an AC.

Perhaps that's why he's headed to his bunker

Thread: It's not worth the death threats...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15774683

The way many of the people on GLP treat Astronut by threatening him with death threats to him and his family, calling him a shill when his knowledge and science insult your need for doom when all he is trying to do is point out the real doom, I doubt he's headed to a bunker. He's simply sick of casting his pearls before swine, in my humble opinion.

As a geek with no formal training in astronomy, I look to Astro to help me understand the finer mechanics of space science. He is an asset to this forum - not an enemy. I've never spoken to him on a personal level as that is not his way, but I consider him a man I would call friend. He's honest and hard working. He really cares about real truth and he wouldn't be here if he himself didn't believe that there is a real possibility of an event which will endanger us all. He's in a position to tell us if that doom will come from space and so many of you have driven off a very important part of our community and I feel sorry for you. The constant dismissal of his honest contributions to weed out the bullshit from the true dangers, which is desperately needed here so that we can focus on the true dangers, is appauling. The loss of such a man who truely cares about humanity, truth, and greater understanding of the Universe and the planet we call home, diminishes this community and I, for one, say shame on all of you who have harrassed him, threatened him, and refused to let go of superstition in favor of a realistic view of the true threats facing us.

Again. Shame on you.
