It's not worth the death threats...
Yesterday I learned that death threats were being made against me on Flickr by a new user who registered under the screen name "astromutmustdie."
[link to www.flickr.com]

Worse yet, the same person also left a threatening comment for my friend TBar1984 on his Flickr page (which has since been deleted).

Both TBar and I contacted Flickr about this, and though the threatening comment on TBar's photo has since been removed, the picture threatening me that the person uploaded is still there. Neither law enforcement nor Flickr seem particularly interested in doing anything about this, so after careful deliberation I've decided that enough is enough. As much as I have enjoyed being here, as much as I have enjoyed debunking astronomical nonsense, and as much as I have appreciated the friends I've found here, it's not worth the death threats, especially when people I call friends are getting hit by it too. Is this person probably all talk? Probably, but I'm not willing to bet my life on it.

I'm being threatened because some people don't want to hear the truth and feel threatened by it. I'm being threatened by someone who probably believes the government is hiding the truth, but ironically they are the ones trying to suppress the truth which was right in front of them all along. I'm not a "shill" and I'm not a "NASA agent," I'm just an amateur astronomer who speaks the truth, a fact known by those here who know me and those who have met me in person.

I will continue to support the GLP Observatory for as long as that support is desired. I'm not closing my account; I'll continue to participate in GLP Observatory-related threads and I'll gladly respond to any questions anyone has about anything via PM. I may also pop into voice chat now and then. In terms of actively debunking astronomical nonsense in threads though, I'm done.

Certain individuals of low character will probably celebrate this, and I have already been accused of faking the threats myself. Others will simply say I'm over-reacting and it's no big deal, but that's easy to say when you're not the one being threatened. What they fail to realize is that someone from here has silenced a voice for the truth. When there was a real cosmic threat, however remote, I talked about it (for instance, 2012 DA14's risk to satellites). On the other hand, when something wasn't a real threat, I said so even if it wasn't the popular thing to say.

You may not like the fact that Elenin was not a threat to earth, but that was the cold hard truth. You may not like the fact that there was no way 2005 YU55 was going to hit the earth or moon, but again, that was the cold hard truth. I'm sure much will be said in the coming year about comet C/2012 S1 ISON which isn't true, but this time I will not be here to help debunk it. I'm sure many others will though, and to them I say thanks and good luck.

For what it's worth, I'm sorry you two are going through this. You're right, it's NOT worth it. No one should be threatened because of discussion. I haven't always agreed with you, but the one time we got into it, I thoroughly enjoyed the discussion. Please do what you need to do to stay safe, but don't let the b**tard's win. We will NEVER learn without discussions.hf

Astro -

You have been a voice of reason amongst insanity. I've appreciated you're educated responses to all the bullshit throughout my time perusing GLP.

Thanks for all of your effort and time, and I do hope that if anything ACTUALLY becomes threatening to Earth, you will do the right thing and let people know.

I don't blame you for backing away amidst death threats, no one wants to deal with crazies, at least the ones that will threaten your life.

So good luck to you sir, you have done many good deeds.

Astro, stay strong. I don't aways agree with ya but bodily threats to you or any one is just plain wrong.

People should simply debate as civilly as possible and not resort to their reptile lower thinking.

I welcome and appreciate your posts!

wow

well man I can totally understand where you are coming from...

I've thrown up my hands many a time and said fuck this place over the same type of thing...

It's sad how little law enforcement will do to help you in a situation like this...

It seems unless you're somebody important, they won't do a fucking thing until someone gets hurt..

The good news is 99% of the time it's just some random internet nerd who has no means or intention to follow through with his threats..

It's that other 1% you gotta watch out for..

I hope you won't let them run you off man...

Maybe after some time passes you'll feel differently...

I can't thank you enough for all your help with the observatory project and I'm very grateful to you for being willing to work on it after these threats...

Oh and just a note to astro's would be stalkers...

It's not just you Astro. The level of violent threats against people who ask important questions and attempt to provide answers about some things is just way out of hand. Several people on here (including myself) were threatened just for suggesting that there might be something to speculations about Planet X. This is a conspiracy website so of course some of it could be, well, a conspiracy, but I think it's deeper than that.

Society as a whole is seriously losing its civility. Some of it may be directed and some of it may be a reaction to something dark. People are just acting savage now and the perception of anonymity they get from posting under an undefined or assumed name on the internet isn't helping.

Something wicked this way comes. Whether it is a mythical planet or not should just be a matter of simple conversation. But space object or not, there is a wickedness that is sweeping the world right now and things are going to get worse. It would be best for all to be more on guard and mindful of changes in their own character as well.
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787

Lots of insane fuggers out here on the internets.

Board I came from has had two people COMMIT MURDERS since 2003, another killed while trying to kill people, two people imprisoned and convicted by the Feds for crimes committed on the board, and another poster died of a police bullet to the brain, while holding a bunch of people hostage at The Discovery Channel.

Never forget that some of these people are simply insane....

Who would make a threat with a photo upload account as a threat. Never heard of such a thing.

Re: It's not worth the death threats...

I'm sure many others will though, and to them I say thanks and good luck.

cmon astro....we've all been there at one time or another.
its just keyboard bullies and we crap bigger than them.

take some time off, relax. come back well rested.

your better than that bro. your work here is appreciated hf

dont let them run you off man, then they win. wink

political correctness is a doctrine.... fostered by a delusional, illogical minority...... and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media; which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
