Ok, So Michigan doesn't require, nor recognizes a front license plate on a motor vehicle. I still have my California front plate on my car and a Michigan plate on the rear... perfectly legal to do in Michigan, ... but crossing the border into Canada invokes a shitstorm and crossing back into the US is just as bad. In general, crossing the border is so fucked up now, I avoid it. |

The same thing happens at airports. That way when Ali Muhammad Ikeelu sues them for profiling they can show the twenty to one ratio of white people hassled. You were just helping out your country. God bless you. OK, so that sounds racist, but it's at least part of why the policy is in place. Plus the majority of people traveling out of the country go in groups. That's all there is to it. |

Here are the questions I was asked (approximate order) I'll leave out the responses: How long long were you in Canada? What was the purpose of the visit? You are alone? Why did you travel alone? Where do you live? Why does your car have Washington plates if you live in Oregon? Why did you rent a car? Do you own a car? Why didn't you drive your own car to Canada? Do you typically rent cars for long trips? What is your occupation in Oregon? How long have you been doing that for? Did you buy anything in Canada? Nothing like postcards or souveniers? Why didn't you buy anything? Have you traveled outside of the country before? I see you have visited Mexico and Europe in the last few years. What was the purpose of these trips? Did you travel alone? Where did you go in Mexico? What was the most recent trip to Mexico? Was that alone or with someone else? Your passport says you were born in California. When did you move to Oregon? Why did you move to Oregon? When was your last visit to Canada? Why did you decide on Canada for a trip? (Meanwhile I can tell someone is communicating with her in her ear piece) This took more than 5 minutes. How are most of these questions relevant to get back into MY COUNTRY? Meanwhile, all the cars (about 80% with British Columbia license plates) are let through easily (30 seconds max) but a U.S. citizen is harrassed for travelling alone!!!! Citizens are guilty until proven innocent, just like at the airports! Just trying to get back into MY COUNTRY from Canada (not like it was North Korea or something). Amazing. Kinda makes you nostalgic for the Nazi days of "Do you haff yo' pay-puhs, bitte?" Apollo astronauts couldn't have passed through Van Allen's Belt. Van Allen wore suspenders. |

They were all checking on my criminal record from when I was a teenager, asking me details about some party that the cops busted like I was a menace to society 10 years later and lying to them for not telling them about it. Then they're all like, "where's your Facebook?" - why the fuck are they checking my Facebook? I told them I didn't have one and that really freaked them out. They eventually told me I could volunteer to not come into Canada and that if I didn't they would make my life a living hell, which I took as them wanting to stick their fingers up my ass. The "woman" guard was obviously coked up on Aderall or some pharmaceutical, kept twitching and looking like she would reach for her gun in a heartbeat. Fuck Canada because of their border and guards. |
