Re: Government Assistance Doesn’t Cut It Anymore: Phoenix Mayor Loses 4 Pounds In One Week On “Food Stamp Budget”
It hasn't been sufficient for many years, I alone get a mere $200 supposedly to last me a month. There's pretty much no way to accomplish that eating 3 meals a day.
 Quoting: MuslimAmerican

Bullshit. You just need to eat like a human being, not a fat fucking fatty.

Medium breakfast, medium lunch, small dinner, intersperse with healthy snacks.

On $6.50 a day which is about $200 a month, I do just fine. I eat healthy. I don't eat shit. All these fat fucks whining about how it's too hard to eat healthy because they aren't given enough are just making excuses.

Buy the healthy stuff, eat less. Quality over quantity. It's a conscious choice.

I'm sorry but I do NOT believe this.

I know one family - husband, wife and 2 kids, and they get almost 700/month.

As a family of four, we are spending 4.16 a day per person. We could do very well on half of that. But it would take some planning.

My family was on food stamps once (4 months, we used it, didn't abuse it). Three of us got $245. We added $50 a month to that and ate like kings. I put on weight that I've only now managed to get off.

We bake our own bread though. We will buy a whole chicken for $7 and eat 3 meals with that, or a ham for $15 and eat on it for 4 days. We eat beans and potatoes.

So typical liberal bullshit.

One can get wheat flour, rice, corn meal, beans under $0.50cents/pd . A gal milk or a beef, chicken, pork under $2.50/pd. The gov't is paying one's rent or most of it at this income level. Further it is supposed to supplement one's diet not cover the whole expense.

Then why are all the poor food stampers fat as fuck!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 536086

Overeating on too many carbs. Most overeating is caused by emotional stress. And some overeating is caused by eating food that is nutritionally devoid of nutrients so the stomach is full but the cells are starving. So people keep eating the same garbage and still can't get "full". We end up having a bunch of fat, starving people waddling around.

Eating whole foods would take care of this and stop microwaving the food as well. It practically destroys it. Eat and cook like your grandparents did or even great grandparents these days. And take care of your emotional problems another way like getting out for a walk or at least making yourself a homemade, nutritionally sound snack.

Most adults do not need to eat 3 times a day unless they are expending a lot of energy. 2 snacks and a meal is really enough for an adults unless they have health problems. Then they can spread their calories out through the day.

oh please, what a jackass news story.

Take a look at some of these food stamp recipients on line at Costco, Sam's Club, et al...

all have their carts filled up with steak, lobster, etc.

They're not just getting ONE food stamp allotment per person

they're getting SEVERAL

they know how to scam the system

What's wrong with having to cook from scratch?

Also, 4lbs, really? I fluctuate that much day-to-day.

Does he really think more money for fast food would be healthier? More filling, perhaps, healthier...no way.

Well, actually I guess you have to take into account that a lot of people receiving food stamps probably do not know how to shop or prepare a healthy meal.

Perhaps food stamps should come with shopping and cooking instructions!

I feed a family of three on less than 4 dollars a day. Includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and beverages. We eat quite well, but it is alot of work. I make almost everything from scratch, plus supplement with a small garden in the summer. Summer is over, but I was sure to can the extras.

My budget is a hundred bucks a week or less. I have to admit it is getting much more difficult to keep to that budget. Fortunately, keeping to that budget I have managed to stock up a little here and there to supplement now, during the bust times.

We don't get FS (we probably qualify) but we do save for rainy days.

So true. And I eat the other way around. Usually not much in the day time and then eat a large meal(including dessert) at night. I have lost weight and no longer feel hungry at night so I don't snack. I drink water during the day. If I feel I need more I have some vegetable juice and/or a hard boiled egg. I expend a lot of energy since my job is not a very active one. This has saved me money and I feel so much better. But the point like you said is that adults don't need to eat so much. Just make sure the food you eat is not junk food.

This past year I have significantly changed my diet and lost about 65lbs.

I try to eat only healthy foods now and absolutly no soda or sugary drinks... infact I get almost 0 sugar, except what comes from fruits natually.

One thing I've noticed is that eating healthy means eating less, IMO. My food budget has gone down dramatically, I feel better and I look better.

I actually agree with you on this and would be willing to volunteer my own time to show people how. Ignorance and misunderstanding are some of the biggest hindrances in this world. Some people were never shown any different from what they know and I understand that there is tons of information out there for people that are willing to go look for it. Sometimes though, some things seem unattainable. Also, there are people out there who actually believe that bread is only made in factories. Its not neccesarily their fault.

Saying that though, I am a bit of a bleeding heart :)

I do think your pricing is a bit low though, I live in rural Missouri, surrounded by cows and a gallon of milk here is around $3.50 - 4.50.

Piss on them I'm not giving one more dime of my money. I witnessed a woman agruing with a cashier over the fact she couldn't buy dog food with her food stamps. The lady says fine I'll be right back, she comes back with a couple of T-Bones and said she'll just feed the dog steak then.

Sad part is - some stores DO get away with it....there's a small store here in town that just puts whatever under "food" - cigarettes, beer, anything!! A guy that used to work with my husband (but quit after a week - big surprise) actually was bragging about how he uses over 1/2 his food stamps for cigarettes. It's disgusting.

This is such a controversial issue. Instead of food stamps, how about the government gives food stamp recipients MRE's? Then there would be no more buying steak, pop, junk. Although, i do think it is unfair for people not to be allowed to indulge every now and then. Kids, especially, get food fatigue. Even the government suggest we stock candy and goodies in our storage food for the apocalypse. Food stamp recipients are humans, too. Every human in America should be entitled to food, clothing, housing, medical care. Yes, they should work doing something to earn it. But no family should be deprived of the basic needs. Period. What has happened to this world that we don't look out for each other anymore? Most of us have turned so angry and bitter. Sheesh, people, we should be in this together! Just my scattered two cents! :-)

They're meant to assist the typical lard-ass. To most of the world's population and with a sensible shopping and cooking approach, the monthly allotment is generous enough to secure the complete nutritional demands of the human organism and then some. It's just that most people are inept stupid fucks whose skill sets consist of the ability to operate a microwave.

Every once in a great while when we feel wealthy we will go wild at the grocery store (doritoes, cookies, ice cream, steaks, soda, frozen foods, and so on), abandoning our usual frugal budget and home cooked meals. We usually spend about $10 a day on food, though we have ate on much less when required to. Strangely we can spend $300 on the typical crap that most people buy these days and it doesn't last any longer than if we spend $50 on old school food.

I can buy a 20 lb bag of rice for $12 and a 20 lb bag of beans for $18. Add to that 10 pounds each of corn meal and flour for another $12 and a couple of dozen eggs for $3, a giant box of powdered milk for $15, a big box of powdered potatoes for $4, a big tub of margarine for $4 (or equivalent amount of butter for $9), along with $8 worth of oatmeal.......and I have the majority of what I need to survive on for over a month at a cost of about $75.

I can add canned food and some veggies and fruit to that for another $30-$40, maybe splurge for tea and sugar and I still have spent less than $150 on a months supply of food for a whole family. Throw in $50 worth of meat and it still comes in at $200 or less.

We usually buy cereal, milk, yogurt, OJ, and more fruits and veggies than I priced above. Still our monthly budget is hardly $300 a month, and we feel like we are living it up.
