Am I the only one who thinks the real story is probably something to do with abuse in the home and the mother was in on it too? Actually the law isn't that clear cut. Those are old laws that are not enforced like they used to be. With the internet and really just the general aura of public schools and life in general... The parents could of been perfect in the upbringing of her but the children can still fall off the wagon. Courts have come to understand this throughout the years and rarely enforce the laws you are pertaining too.

They passed laws in this country making it legal to abandon a child at any fire station with no questions asked, for this exact reason. There was no reason to murder the infant when she could have simply have taken it there in the f'n box alive.

There is zero chance a 5 foot three inch 100 pound girl hid the pregnancy of a 9 pound baby. I am 5'7" and 125 pounds, my daughter was 9 pounds. I looked like I swallowed a fully inflated beach ball. You can make some argument for her carrying in her back, or super low, but not much of one if that baby weighed 9 pounds. The mother should definitely be investigated too.

Assuming she literally choked the child to death more than warrants a reaction of being upset. She had multiple options other than murder and only because she was scared of getting in trouble did she do this.

A 14-year-old Lakeland girl has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse by the Polk County Sheriff's Office after officials said she choked her newborn baby to death earlier this month.



The girl, identified as Cassidy Goodson of 7078 Greenbrier Village Drive, was arrested on Thursday and is in the Polk County Juvenile Detention Center.

In a brief hearing this morning, Circuit Judge Mark Carpanini ordered the girl to remain in secure detention. A public defender has been appointed to represent her.

At the hearing, prosecutors said they would be considering whether to charge the teen as an adult.
