Since 1971, gold has inflated nearly 5,000%. Since gold is money, and the US dollar is merely a worthless paper currency gold is the best indicator of inflation. This is before we account for the fact that in the post decade there has been an openly admitted price suppression scheme against good by the world's central banks.

To calculate the doubling time of inflation you just need to remember 70. For example 70 / 7% means that in 10 years the price will double. Or 70 / 10% would make it every 7 years.

1971 = 35$
1978 = 70
1985 = 140
1992 = 280
1999 = 560
2006 = 1120
2013 = 2240

This is approximately 7% annual inflation. if not for price suppression I assume the annual inflation would be about 9-10%
