And remember, the way American's spell, is retarded. It is not the correct form of English, Z is not C. There is but one C in the alphabet, and furthermore, it is nice to see that so many American's still care for her majesties English to be spoke correctly.

People writing "per say" pisses me off, it's "per se". I also notice a "moot" point is often described as a "mute" point, dumb fucks.

ALL LANGUAGE IS MADE UP! It's someones imagination gone wild.

As long as the meaning is understood that's all that's required and it could be conveyed strictly with symbols not related to a language such as a pictograph.

OP I'm sure you can find someone to help you with that butt plug that's stuck in your ass so you won't be so ANAL about peoples writing skills! I'm sure you understood that didn't you?

Second most would have to be using "then" in the context of "than". Third is "definately" (because that's how some people actually say it (shudder), and fourth would be using "defiantly" instead of "definitely" - a sign of typing "definately" and, not wanting to incur the wrath of spelling nazis, right clicked on the wavy red line and picked the first word that popped up. Doh.

It's not just GLP though, it's everywhere. Using "loose" instead of "lose" is understandable (although annoying) when you look at the spelling of the word "choose", and also when you consider how often this misspelling occurs, it's easy to see how it's propagated.

Us spelling nazi's do have a point tho, this isn't always about being anal. Sometimes meaning is actually lost, and then it becomes a problem.

Occasional typo's and spelling errors are forgivable. I'm a published author and I've picked up on my own stupid errors that have gone to print. When proofreading 50,000 of your own words 2 hours before the deadline, you tend to skim a little, but I digress...

The point is, when you have one language that you have been exposed to every SINGLE day of your life, and get basic things wrong like their/there/they're and then/than, and not questioning what "for all intensive purposes" means, but still using it, not realising that the saying is actually "for all intents and purposes", how can anyone take your words seriously?

If such simple observations have bypassed you, what other simple things have slipped by?

-------------------------------------

Insane rant aside, I know some extremely intelligent people with insanely bad spelling and grammar. Being technically minded, spelling is something I've always naturally gotten correct, but it's only 1 part of intelligence and being a bad speller does not automatically mean that you are stupid.

-------------------------------------

I think if you want your point to get across, take an extra minute to read what you've written and make sure it reads how you've intended. Hopefully, silly typos will be forgiven.

Thanks OP. As a professor I read endless papers full of these common grammar mistakes. It frustrates me to no end. The ease of internet posting has made kids lazy when it comes to communication -- a laziness that carries over into graded research papers and professional writing.

I think I might be missing something here, but wondering if English ppl know that American words are officially spelled [<that's one] differently sometimes. Something like 'specialize' is supposed to have a 'z',e.g.. I think it's because of Noah Webster. [link to answers.yahoo.com]

Re: Spelling, grammar and punctuation matter. Let's go over a few things.
Also, the phrase, "between you and I" is incorrect. The pronoun, "I," should be replaced with the pronoun, "me," because "me" is the object of the preposition "between" and should be in the objective case.

But everybody uses that phrase nowadays because it supposedly sounds more "educated," I guess. But it sounds stupid to me because it is incorrect.

By the way, I don't pay much attention to how I write here at GLP. Nobody really cares around here. But there are some sites where I'm especially careful because if I should make errors in my writing, it would stand out like a sore thumb -- mainly because everyone else there writes so well. Not so much here, though.

"The panda eats, shoots and leaves." (Panda has a meal, then uses a gun to to kill somebody and then leaves)

Meaning is also important when it comes to words. Shoots does not necessarily indicate that someone is killed. The Panda may have shot into the air. Or, indeed, the Panda may have fired a crossbow.
