Univision: The untold story of what 'Fast and Furious' wrought in Mexico
"When a journalist for Univision asked President Obama last week why he hasn’t fired Attorney General Eric Holder over the “Fast and Furious” gun walking fiasco, the reporter, it turns out, had an inside scoop that added urgency to the question.

At 7 p.m. on Sunday, Univision says it’ll air a blockbuster investigation detailing the impact of the deeply flawed gunrunning investigation, which operated between Oct. 2009 and January 2011.

The Spanish-language channel says the “Aqui y Ahora” program will expose the true deadly toll of a covert program where US officials allowed over 2,000 high-powered rifles to “walk” into the hands of violent Mexican cartels. Expecting American interest, Univision will caption the program in English.

In the US, “Fast and Furious” is most noted for its ties to the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and for political fallout over the extent of involvement of the Obama administration, including Attorney General Holder. But in Mexico, the program may reignite furor over how a US government that had promised to try to halt the border gun traffic instead covertly contributed to it."

Can anyone explain the logic of giving guns to the cartels? To be able to "trace them"? So they sell them to the cartels, they are used in a crime, the Mx authorities battle with them and capture the guns. What's the point?

It is an offshoot of of the DEA tracking
drug shipments from source to destination.
At the heart of the operations that were
forerunners to fast and furious was some
guy who started out as a DEA agent and said
in a meeting, "Hey, I've got an idea. In the
DEA we used to . . . ."
But drugs allowed to reach their destination
do not have serial numbers and don't directly
kill US law enforcement officers.

what i think the original plan was to have some high murder-count incidents where american guns would be found at the scene and then mexico could lodge a formal complaint that your drug cartels are obtaining too many american weapons too easily.

it would give the democraps another reason to grab more guns here on this side of the border under the guise that there are too many guns falling into the hands of criminals. but like everything else this admin does this was done ass backwards too.

By the mere fact we are guessing the logic of passing guns to criminals is suspicious. Where is the press to answer these questions? Isnt the easiest explanation that they are supporting the cartels, or one cartel over another? It's ridiculous: I'll give you guns so I can bust you with them later. Absurd!

I agree. They had a deal with one of the 5 major cartels to let them have the guns and drugs and let them ship all product to the US in exchange for information on the other cartels.

Evil shit. I realize shit like this goes on and understand sometimes police and intelligence agencies need to 'track' people and things in order to gather information, but obviously many people were hurt or killed by Fast and Furious, as many have been damaged and killed by drugs that have been allowed into the country.
