The thing to remember is that there is a whole class of people who prey on expatriates or people who want to expatriate. Prey might not quite be the right word but it is the right word for a lot of them.

Typically and I'll make this short and simple.

A guy marries a local woman. She knows the language and the locals. He (just for example) acquires land, touts the land via internet about how wonderful and tranquil country X is and sells the land to a gringo at gringo prices.

There are usually all kinds of problems for the buyer that he never anticipated or realized would happen or thought about.

The only way to expatriate is go to country x and live there for several months. I mean live there, as in renting a place, and all the other things that entails.

Just being a tourist or a traveler will tell you nothing.

I grew up on a ranch in Nevada, about a mile from a Paiute Indian Reservation and I'm not so sure secession is going to work. Although American Indians tend to be a proud people, they've lost their self reliance and have to depend on government checks to make ends meet. Yeah, I know there are some casinos, pencil companies, timber companies, tobacco companies etc that are Indian owned but I don't thing that's going to sustain them. Charging outsiders for land & natural resource use isn't going to be enough either. The mindset of dependency would have to change.

Don't misunderstand me, I fully support what they're trying to do but secession would mean ending Federal & State dollars flowing into their coffers - assuming the Fed's would ever allow it in the first place.

The old days and the old ways are gone forever. It was a good way but it ended with the culling of the buffalo and the building of the railroad.
