Try visiting the area. If you're not a local and you act like an assclown then yeah people in WI probably won't be all that friendly. From what I've noticed living in a small community in Northern Wisconsin, people do seem to care about their neighbors. There are actually a lot of random acts of kindness, bartering is already present so it wouldn't be anything new to us, people are free with their knowledge about the land. Not that you won't find a bad apple, but there is a lot of good to the area and it's people as well.
