As a Catholic you CANNOT be a Mason. The reason is that under Masonry you may be required in a future position (usually obtained through the organization in the first place) to cover for a brother that has commited a crime or violation that you know is morally wrong.
Pope John Paul II re-examined this not long ago and came to the conclusion that the original Church position against Free Masonry is still correct.
I saw this kind of stuff in the Police Department in a Major City. They cover for thieves, criminals and often because of their rank or importance, forgive where they would nail lower, more honest people to the wall for the same violation. Do you think that is just?
