I don't think so, Cowgirl. Look at the location coordinates and the distances from the epicenter. They're different.

You are right.

Either that or they are tracking them with the new I-phone 5 and the GPS is messed up.
 Quoting: CowgirlK

I'm not the expert, so I asked Isis7 on El Q's thread. I'm waiting for her, but I think it's 2 eq's.

You're better than I am if you're doing this on your phone! I can't read a darn thing on mine, it takes forever!LOL
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

Nooo...Not me. I don't have an I-anything. I was making a joke.

They keep talking about how the new I-phone has problems with the GPS maps and tracking. I was trying to be funny. Guess It might be time for me to stop drinking and call it a night!

Everytime I get off the caprock, it makes me want to stop and take LOTS of pics, and take some new geology courses! Mine were WAY too long ago!LOL
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

I've been interested in geology all my life, but only recently started to get involved again. Did some digging in the back yard and came up with quartz crystal about 3 feet down. Best I can tell, it shouldn't be there. Any ideas?
 Quoting: Borian

I didn't know you lived south of Dallas, Borian.

That's cool. Also, I have a degree in Geology and have no clue why it would be there.

What's your soil like? Is it clay or sandy?
 Quoting: Jonny Blaze

Sorry B, didn't see this post til now. I'll defer to the expert, but I'm an occasional rockhound and quartz has a habit of turning up everywhere it seems. I've even found it come up in our caliche and it shouldn't be there either. How big was the piece?
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

I'm no expert. But you are right. Quartz is the most common mineral. Silica is tough to erode and in abundance.

I was just asking about the soil because I would think it would be stranger if it was in a high clay environment.

It could be anything though...it could be the soil was brought in by a land developer, or it could be that it was deposited by a flood event thousands of years ago.

That's what is so cool about geology...it's part science and part art.
The engravings translate to "This space intentionally left blank."

The prayer is inscribed in an ancient script, rarely used today. It seems to be a philippic against small insects, absent-mindedness, and the picking up and dropping of small objects.

The gate is open; through it you can see a desolation, with a pile of mangled bodies in one corner. Thousands of voices, lamenting some hideous fate, can be heard.
The way through the gate is barred by evil spirits, who jeer at your attempts to pass.

Johnny Blaze, you have the degree, I don't. I'm more of a hobbyist! What I'd really like to find here is some of Coronado's leavings! They're about an hour or two north of here, they could have ridden through here, right!?! All I really find are fence staples and pieces of fencing wire!

Johnny! mostly it's just dirt and hitting clay balls at 2 feet. The only rocks we see here are caliche and I've found several clusters of quarts crytals that acutally look like they are worn by water. I'm 600 feet above the Trinity river which is several miles away. It's intersting enough that I keep digging.

Told the wife that if I find gold, I'm bringing in a bobcat.

Heh. Time for bed for me, but will definately reply tomorrow. Great to see you again.

Have found several fist sized clusters that have a gold colored band in them, not gold though. Looks like gold colored sandstone or something.

They aren't pristine, and you wouldn't know it's quartz if you didn't break it in half.

I wonder if it's rutilated quartz. If you have a gemologist type store, you might want to have it looked at. If it is, the rough would be really cool!!

Does it look like the 2nd pic?

Hey Buckeye....I'm fixin to call it a night but I wanted to tell you I've been listening to WBAP talk radio ever since the quake.

At every news break they say, "There was a 3.4 earthquake tonight just north of Irving. It lasted several seconds and there are no reports of damage."

No mention of a second quake and not much mention of the first.

I'm sure by morning the story will read, "Drenched Rangers fans stomping out of bars after the rained out Angles game cause heilplots in Dallas to register false 3.4 earthquake.

That's a joke too..Mr joke killer.

Keep up the good work. I'll check this thread in the morning to see what else you have found out about the quakes.

Just logged out but wanted to add...

>>Baldwin says smaller aftershocks are a possibility over the coming day or so, noting that the region has been rattled by a number of minor quakes since 2008.

He said the quake was detected by a seismological station about 65 miles from the epicenter - somewhat distant - and the preliminary magnitude of 3.4 could be revised up or down once further data is obtained.<<

About 10:40 central ther was some weird lightining over west
Plano Texas. It looked like Ball lightning or a transformer blew.I was in North Dallas and it didnt appear to be 7 to ten miles north.Maybe as close as gw bush @75 It waa blue, round and close to the ground,It lit 15% of the sky I saw it flash at least 3 times.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5432358

Power went out at my house. I went outside. The the power came back on. Then the sky started flashing blue. And the power went back out. I guess it was a transformer. There was no noise, but from my point of view the light was in the sky. I was very close to it. I tried to get it on my phone, but it only did it about three times as you said.

I REALLY hate that road! My daughter used to work there some years back. She did the rope's course and was a lifeguard, among all the other stuff Steve used to have the kids do. I hated it when it was icy.

Legion, you have a fault line near you, too. It's called Matador Arch. It's up by Plainview. If you google it, you'll get WAY more info than you want! Catch you later.

I felt something too. Didn't have a chance to post earlier, not sure as to the exact time. But it was after 11:00 pm. A lot was still going in on in the house, had to ask my daughter to turn down the tv to ask her if she felt the shaking. She didn't feel it then. However, we both felt shaking earlier in the day around 2:30 pm on yesterday while out shopping.
We're in Dallas.

What you feel is the collapse of the Texas Rangers' baseball club run by the idiot Ron Washington. The Rangers have all the talent in the world to be World Champions and are run (on the field) by a dumbass manager and the team leader is the 2nd worst hitter in baseball in 2012 and a crybaby to boot.

Judging by the Texan obesity epidemic, it was probably just a pedestrian.
