Count on it. Quoting: Desert Fox Yep White House to contractors: Hold off on layoff warnings The White House on Friday told government contractors worried about fiscal cliff spending cuts to hold off on warning employees about possible layoffs. Defense contractors in particular have warned for months that the upcoming sequester would cost jobs in their industry. And Lockheed Martin's CEO has said publicly he may be forced to issue notice this fall of possible layoffs in 2013. If other contractors follow suit, there could be a rash of layoff notices spooking employees right before Election Day [link to money.cnn.com] Even better, the Administration is TELLING these companies that THE GOVERNMENT will pay any GOVERNMENT fines for WARN ACT violations. Anybody ready to call it fascism, yet? |

My hubby was feeling like his last job of 12 years was going to be thinning the higher paid employees out so he began studying for a career in Animal Control and now he is out from under his old tyrant boss and making really good money with 3 days off a week. On thing about houses going under and the economy, since asshole people can't toss their kids out in the street they easily toss "beloved"? pets out to fend for themselves. As things get worse, more animals will be let loose, leaving my husband in a fairly steady job. Maybe you can completely switch careers like my husband did he used to build roads, get a job that will be more secure when shtf times get real bad. Think of jobs god in doom times. Food delivery to people afraid to go out. Mortuary service, body delivery. Animal Control. Good luck! |

I've been making the transition myself, and it has been a real hardship, but there's satisfaction in knowing you'll ultimately be dependent upon yourself to the greatest extent possible. I think too many managers today are trained to think short term in terms of profit taking than in looking at how to grow their company with good people. But losing a job always sucks, and I'm sorry to hear of it. |

I was forced to quit my job earlier this year as a truck driver for a company in the Natural Gas industry. I was being forced to drive a 100,000 lb. vehicle in a way that put other motorists in danger. Not wanting to hurt or kill anyone, I just walked out in disgust. I've been doing odds and ends to maintain a living, so I can certainly relate to what you're feeling. |

Diane Sawyer or some moron fuckface spewed this shit out. Sorry to hear about this OP. Make your own business. If people had more of their own businesses then shit would be different. Everyone just can't work for some asshat and expect to be the manager one day. Who the fuck believes this retarded shit where you think climbing the corporate ladder with a higher degree gets you $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ when motherfuckers in McDonalds or your local Dairy Queen with PHDs. |

Unfortunately, we get to choose between Obama or Romney in quite possibly the most important election since the great depression. While we know Obama isn't suited for the job, I also have serious doubts about Romney also. I'm probably just going to skip casting my vote in the upcoming election. If Obama wins, Business goes GALT, more than they are now, to survive the coming storm. If Romney wins, business loosens up, starts spending money again, and you actually have a chance at a job. Jobs or foodstamps, that is the stark choice. |

Going to college, getting a job with benefits, then retiring is just not gonna cut it anymore. People need to start thinking outside of the box instead of putting themselves in the hands of companies and people who treat you as expendable. Look into online marketing, network marketing like Organo Gold. Make your own path and fuck the 9-5 grind where things are out of your control. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24706086 Why the massive disconnect? I can only conclude that the mainstream press and business academic establishment is being paid off to tout the "labor shortage" meme so they can continue to flood first-world countries with immigrant labor (both skilled and unskilled) as well as the outsourcing gravy train. Your statement rings with so much truth and wisdom that I wish I could meet you and shake your hand. It is the new business standard - "Screw "em"! And it is evil. |

"Shelters are putting pets to sleep by the hundreds because they so over run." Um...Not here, ACO officers ARE the pet catcher, collector and those that don't get adopted or owners not found, idchips missing updated information get gassed each week to make more room in the shelter. In larger cities, Animal Control IS the Shelter, there is no difference. I love it when my hubby can do something good for an animal and he does really try, but as times get bad and more and more animals have to be gassed, hubby job "unfortunately" will be even more secure. One thing about doom scenarios, loose animals get rabies, more doom more loose animals more rabies, more government funding and grants for cities to keep the rabies in check. |

Well said. I was fortunate enough to see the writing on the wall just prior to my termination from the corporate world. I was a mid level manger and was back stabbed by a few employees who got an owner's attention. I had actually used the company copier and paper to print flyers for my new business the evening before my termiination. I told the owner who canned me that he was an inspiration to me since he had been a succesful businessman, I had no doubt that I'd also be a success. So, I left happily and was turning a profit in just a few weeks. |
