You know what due to unfair child support I live off $300.00 every two weeks in this economy. When I asked what I could do to get a reduction I was told quit your job and you'll make more on welfare by the state. So anyone crying and complaint about its better not to work at 12.00 and live off the state know that your argument is a complete cop out for you laziness!

For the record I'm a single father, no criminal record and there is no reason why I should not have joint custody. I see my children once every two weeks and pay $1170 a month for one and $890 a month for the other. Yes it would make more sense for me to quit my job but I won't become part of the scum that is destroying this country by taking the easy way out and mean while hurt my children.

If a job is available do the right thing and take it! If you can not figure out how to get past a simple application process even if it is difficult you have bigger issues.

Also, $12hr as a laborer is a bit low.. I know for a fact in other states they make $18-40hr. Hell, they pay janitors better than that.

I'd apply. I'm a state over and it's more than I make at a bank. I work more than 40 hours a week with plenty of overtime, but they took away our bonuses and gave all the money to management last year, so I'm a little bitter here.

Wow! There is an assload of welfare leeches in this thread! In my area you can get by on $12 an hour without a problem. I have friends that have families they take care of on $12 to $14. Granted, a shovel operator here usually would pull more than $12 so that may be the reason for no response...

The starting wage sucks, but like the OP said.. it can go up! Apply, do the job well and you'll likely get raises. Also consider that there may be opportunities for overtime. OP didn't mention either if benefits are available. Benefits are a big thing too. My last teaching job gave me about 11.00 an hour with benefits. Could I run a household alone on that? Probably not, but my husband worked as well. Had I stayed longer instead of leaving to stay at home with my kids my wages probably would have gone up. It really isn't a bad starting point.

$12 a hour is a good starting wage for any line of work. Most people that start their working career start off at a minimum wage job. Then you gain experience and knowledge with that job. Then with that knowledge you look for a better paying job with that knowledge. That is the way it works. You have to crawl before you can walk. Being a business owner it is extremely difficult in this day in age to hire someone train them and keep them happy or content with their work. To many young workers and old feel like they are due some kind of monetary entitlement. Everyone seems like they should make top dollar for their skills or knowledge however great they are or not. In this instance starting out as a shovel operator at $12 hr is a good wage especially in Tx. I dont know of many jobs where you can advance 8 dollars an hour in a year. Maybe some of you should climb down of that high horse and WAKE UP. No body owes you anything and it is not the GUbments job or anyones elses to take care of you.

I think OP is making stuff up. I live in Arkansas and I am sure that any job paying $12 an hour would get a lot of hits here, especially one requiring no skills.

What else is posted in OPs' job add? Does the person have to travel 500 miles on their own dime and pay for housing? I could see that not getting much interest.

In Arkansas there are plenty of users in the system, but there are atleast as many people honestly looking for work. There are jobs here, but a person with narrow skills or no skills may have to look for a month to find something reasonable. $12 an hour for a low skill job would get swarmed by applicants around here.

Maybe Texans are lazy, but I'm more inclined to think that OP is a shill.

First off, $12. is the starting wage. With in a year it could go to $20.

It is a starting position for a shovel operator.
