Twit. No one should be able to raise a family at this skill level. Two or three young men making this amount could, however, rent a house, have a phone, and a TV, and pay utilities easily--if they didn't party it all away. Then as their knowledge and skills developed, they could work their way up the ladder of success. You Liberal Twits want everybody to get equal pay starting at graduation from High School. Idiot.

I seriously dont get why yanks think they are living in the golden country-my fuel costs about 6 bucks a gallon us,my rents 400 a week but I still get a decent living regardless

of course we get paid a decent wage mind you, a teenager at mcdonalds gets 16 an hr- I get 42 an hour fitting towbars

I'm not a millionaire by any means- but I have a house almost paid off, work 38 hrs a week, got a nice car and a boat (and get time to actually use it)

Oh and I recently had a suspect tumor that they suspected was cancer- within a month had it tested, confirmed non malignant (thank the flying spaghetti monster), was cut out and it all up cost me 150 bucks

I hear of people being bankrupted by medical costs in the states and I seriously wonder- why the fuckin hell does anyone actually choose to live there- my experience from media and online over the last twenty years is that you have to be insane to actually want to live or work there....

1. Can you...Feed, clothe, shelter yourself(1 person) on $12 an hour in today's economy?

2. How about 2 persons, say elderly around 60-64 yrs old

3. How about 3 persons(add wife and kid)

can you do so without any Government assistance?

then add transportation and all that goes with it(taxes, tag, insurance, fuel, tires and maintenance)

People, you seem to have overlooked that the jo is "Shovel operator". No American in their right mind would do that kind of work for $12 hr.
2 years ago when employment of illegals wasnt so illegal this job would not even last 2 days before being filled for the same payrate or less.

OP, good luck finding that 1 in a million american worker who can do a good job.

$12 an hour. Lets say they keep 70%. That's less than $1400 net each month.

So you get to live in a shitty apartment and stay home every night.

Quit comparing the wage to some fantasy that you have about life.

I'm not saying $12 is a bad wage, but its not great.

Do you need skills? Are you sure no one applied or did the HR people tell you that? Sometimes HR will say that cause no one they want ou to hire applied or they're interviewing for another job.

Just sayin'
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9106140

And are you blaming the Fed for that? Because that's who has causes the relentless increase what things cost.

Blame the Fed, and only elect politicians who promise to end the Fed.

But you probably thought Ron Paul was a crackpot, right? And Gary Johnson, would never get your vote, right?

People today, with practically 0 knowledge of history or economics, or common sense, really, take it for granted that the price of bread has to rise year after year after year.

Have you ever wondered why it rises in price? Really, what causes the price to increase?

Is farming more or less efficient than it was 50 years ago? Much, much more efficient.

Is transportation more or less efficient than it was 50 years ago? Even though the price of gas has gone up, total transportation efficiency is much higher.

So is bread 1000% of what it was in 1970?

You and everyone else is getting royally screwed by the Fed and other central bankers worldwide.

Your math is luring but not realistic.

At $12/hr, before taxes is $1,920/monthly.

Then pay roughly $150 in taxes (ss, income, medicare...only)

This leaves a check worth $884 bi-weekly.

psssh! You try to live off of $442 a week! That includes paying for outrageous gas prices and soaring food prices.

Thank GOD I do well.....I feel for all of you suckers.
 Quoting: --Voltaic--

Sorry, but my math is correct.

40x12=480
10x18=180 (over 40 hrs. is $18. an hr.)

He's paying what he can afford to pay. My wife works for 7.25 an hour, and we get by. 12 an hour isn't bad at all, for a job that essentially doesn't have education requirements. I have a 4 year degree, and graduated with high honors from a fairly decent law school, and I would GRATEFULLY take this job, if I lived in Texas. Hell of a lot better than the pathetic job search I do now. This economy sucks. But complaining about a decent job is idiotic.

Is it easy to survive on 12 an hour in this economy? NO. Can it be done? YES. Is it better than not working at all? Absolutely.

I own two small businesses and posted an ad on Craigslist and on Monster for each.... now, these are two totally different type of jobs for to totally different companies.... one position it took 4 months to fill and we received a total of 5 resume in 4 months the person we hired is good but not great and our ad still remains active.

The other position is entry level and to date it remains OPEN!
