I have 6 in my family and will base it where i live.

I go lowest income level because employers lie when it comes to overtime..its either a short 6 month burst of it and then back to regular hours in my 35 years of experience so we will go with MY numbers 12 an hour 40 hours a week.
12x40=480.00
480x4=1920.00
1920x12=23,040
with all the withholding's it calculates for my family to be 441.40 bring home each week.
so in reality with no overtime it is 21,187.20

Per Month
Rent for my family would be 600.00
Gas would be 35.00 a week x 4=140.00 if job was 15 miles from my house.
Electricity is 140.00
Water 80.00
sewage 20.00 ( yeah i pay sewage)
insurance is 80.00 for car.
Food each week would be minimum 80.00
Heat (propane) 100.00 a month.
phone 100.00
garbage 12.00
Total is $1,352.00 on average per month.

1765.60-1352.00=413.60

So $413.60 is what you would have left over every month.
Lucky guy would have about 100.00 a week left over.
Doable but just above poverty for a family wage.

I would not want to live on that shit unless i was single.

That is excellent for someone just starting the job. Unfortunately, I am not amazed at the amount of people complaining about the starting wage. They would complain no matter what.

$2.50/hr difference is not ALMOST. $0.25/hr is almost. That $2.50/hr is the difference between working 40 hours AND receiving state/federal benefits, verses working 40 hours and NOT receiving state/federal benefits. That extra $2.50/hr equals an extra $5,200.00/year. That could take a 5 person from family from a 2 bedroom house to a 4 bedroom house. That could put a brand new car in someone's driveway. That could purchase health insurance for a family of 4 for the year. So...you see...you're not ALMOST paying the same...you're far and away from it.

There are ways for unskilled people to not have children.
To hire someone for a job that pays $12/hr., the employer is going to have to increase his billing by at least $15/hr to pay his share of SS, workers' comp, additional equipment, liability ins. and book-keeping/tax prep. How much would you be willing to pay unskilled labor if you were forced to say--hire a kid to mow yards all 6 hours/day using your equipment? Could you find him work?

I have an account on TX Workforce, so I decided to look for the job.

If it is the $12/hr job I am looking at, it requires a Class B CDL and minimum 1 year experience in backhoe operation. Not exactly entry level.

If someone doesn't have 1 yr experience listed, they won't get matched up with the listing and will never see it.

You didn't figure in important items like: toilet paper, toothpaste, laundry soap, shampoo, soap, dish soap, ect... Or oil for your car, air for tires($.75 at least a month), ect..

I just turned 21 and I would totally take that job. People think they are too good for everything nowadays. I work at Starbucks currently, make 9 bucks an hour. One of my friends who is the same age as me has been unemployed for like a year and a half. He is the stereotypical liberal hipster. He thinks working at a chain, or for a low-wage is beneath him or something. What the hell do you expect for a simple little job that any moron can do? Full salary and benefits?!

This generation is just too entitled. 12/hr is better than 0/hr. Living in a $650/month place and scraping by is better than leeching off your parents or the government. I'm really getting sick of this pathetic attitude.

If you would have read through this page, the job has a lot of requirements, and most don't even qualify. As for fast food jobs, did you ever think maybe they worked there before and can't work there again, or something worse..

I am getting a little tired of all the hypocritical, judgmental, think the worst people. Yes, there are those who flat out refuse to work, and those who think fast foo is beneath them.

If you have bills that are non-neg, and you have to make $15hr minimum in order to survive, a minimum wage job is not going to cut it.

After you take taxes out of $12, the max you make in a state w/o income tax is gonna be a little over $10hr, and depending on your state another 4-11% on top. Texas is one of those lucky states w/o income tax.

It is not always as simple as refusing to work.

I have not read all the post yet but have to throw another 2cents worth in here. I just finished doing a job that required digging, with a hand shovel and pick, had to pick the whole thing as it was undiggable. I put in 80 hrs of labor from sunday to sunday. Then poured footers and built a retainig wall all by hand. AND guess what?? I did it for $12 an hour. Had a younger guy with me to help but I ended up doing 60% of the work. He could not keep up with me or is just plain fucking lazy. I'm 60yrs old and still can do this work and am still willing to do this kind of work. I am Irish also. So anybody that says or thinks white guys don't want to work or cannot work can eat my Irish f@#@!#$g ass.
Oh yeah and I still have not gotten paid by this person who just so happens to be a damn lawyer.

Texas Workforce interface SUCKS and the huge majority of job seekers will not have access to your contact info. If you are the listing that I am seeing in NE Texas, then no one who doesn't have a CDL and at least 1 year of equipment experience is not going to be allowed to apply for the job through TWC.

They do suck.

This job posting is for a entry level laborer.

No exp.
No CDL.
No DL.
Felons OK.

I think this sounds like a fine position. If we were in TX I would have my husband scoop this position up. I read somewhere that TX has the highest number of people on min. wage and I know that the housing is cheaper, so I say that is a decent starting wage. People seem to have high standards. I worked for min. wage with a BA for 6 months till I found a position. I have never been on unemployment, I have worked some crappy degrading jobs but I have always worked.

Have you tried searching as if you were a jobseeker? I didn't see anything coming up that met that criteria using "laborer" as a search term and $12 hr. You can search without registering. My guess is that it has more to do with TWC's crap interface.

It's has nothing to do w/ a search problem. My contact there has sent the posting to 200+ job seekers.
