Big U.S. Fleet Nears Disputed Islands, But What For? | |

Give the leaders of Japan and China a cage to fight it out in, last man standing gets to claim the islands. Meanwhile make it pay per view and pay off some of the debt. Quoting: Fred 24397363 None of our boys need to die over this ego filled "face saving" crotch grabbing nonsense. Now if only China would impose export sanctions... We'd see full employment damn fast as American workers jobs got rapidly unoffshored. Exactly. NO American should die for the japs. And you can bet your bottom dollar the fleet is being shadowed by Chinese subs. Oh but don't get your hope high on the job market no matter happens. Mr. Dell will simply move his Chinese factory to Thailand... |

Yes but, our subs are shadowing their subs that are tracking our planes above their ships being watched by our other subs which in turn have been also shadowing the shadowering subs of theirs by our ships. Treyfish (OP) User ID: 14756837 United States 09/30/2012 04:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yang Zhaohui, political counsellor in the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, said the Japanese government, disregarding the repeated and stern representations made by the Chinese side, openly took an illegal action of nationalising Diaoyu Island on September 10, 2012. “This is an outright denial of the outcomes of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and poses a grave challenge to the post-war international order and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter,” he told the newsmen at the embassy. Yang said Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands are legally and historically an inseparable part of the Chinese territories in the early years of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 AD). But Japan occupied the territories following the China-Japan War in 1895, he added. Yang alleged that the US was encouraging Japan to openly take illegal actions of 'nationalising' Diaoyu Island. If there is a war between China and Japan over the island, USA would support Japan, he said. However, Shiro Sadoshima, Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh, in a press statement yesterday claimed that the Senkaku islands are an inherent part of the territory of Japan in light of historical facts and based upon international laws. The Senkaku Islands are under the valid control of the government of Japan, he added. [link to www.thedailystar.net] |

[link to fpc.state.gov] The Department of Defense (DOD) and other observers believe that the near-term focus of China’s military modernization effort has been to develop military options for addressing the situation with Taiwan. Consistent with this goal, observers believe that China wants its military to be capable of acting as a so-called anti-access force—a force that can deter U.S. intervention in a conflict involving Taiwan, or failing that, delay the arrival or reduce the effectiveness of intervening U.S. naval and air forces. DOD and other observers believe that China’s military modernization effort, including its naval modernization effort, is increasingly oriented toward pursuing additional goals, such as asserting or defending China’s claims in maritime territorial disputes, protecting China’s sea lines of communications, displacing U.S. influence in the Pacific, and asserting China’s status as a major world power |

But the U.S. has quietly assembled a powerful air, land and sea armada not far from where Japan and China are squaring off over disputed islands in the East China Sea. Two Navy aircraft carrier battle groups and a Marine Corps air-ground task force have begun operating in the Western Pacific, within easy reach of the Senkaku Islands. That’s where Japanese and Chinese patrol boats are engaged in an increasingly tense standoff. Chinese vessels have repeatedly entered territorial waters around the small islands in recent weeks and Coast Guard vessels from Japan and Taiwan fired water cannons at each other last week. The islands are controlled and administered by Japan, but claimed by both China and Taiwan. Carrier groups and Marine task forces often operate alone, so the convergence of the three groups in a relatively small part of the Pacific represents an unusual concentration of firepower. All three are fresh from training exercises in and around Guam. Those exercises included live-fire with missiles and joint beach landings by U.S. Marines and Japanese ground troops.
