i hear ya! Having a small business that keeps us fed and getting by, thats about it. We get by but end up with 20 thou for taxes for two years. No idea how we are going to pay it.

Being broke money wise is no drama, I have 4 beautiful children and a beautiful wife so i essence i am hell rich by that alone.

Go to your local social security office. They have all kinds of programs that you might qualify for....including food stamps. I don't encourage people to be lazy and just draw money from the system, but people like you are what it's for. You're working hard, and doing your best. Get help until you can get on your feet.

I have all the bills paid for now but my gas tank is on E and Ive got 11 dollars and 23 cents and a bag of returnables to last me the next 9 days lol man am I living the life.

Not like that anymore in many cases.Only have one family member and he has been my downfall most my life.Last year I finally wised up and got him out of my life for good.Better off without family like that.Seems like there is always a stranger that will treat you better.Been that way for me at least.Some family like to see you fall flat on your face so they can gloat and feel all high and mighty.People like that really have nothing or no one that counts.

No kidding! A pack of english muffins, carton of eggs and a little butter for under four bucks could provide you with real food (face it, McD's isn't real food) for a week or more. You could probably even manage some deli ham or a pack of bacon to add to them. Bake the eggs cracked into a muffin tin if you just have to have that rounded out look to them.

i grew up dirt poor on welfare food stamps and section 8.. my mom was handicapped and my dad left at an early age.. I hated being poor.

i am 43, married, two ids, paid off my house 5 years ago.. about 330k in retirement accounts, $120k in cash.. no car payments.. no debt..learned at an early age to to live debt free and always within my means... got a good wife and I can't complain.


i could loose it all tommorrow given the right circumstances.. I am thankful but try to help others where I can and coach others to not be stupid.

I do. I live as cheap as possible. I never eat out, maybe two three times a year and that's it. I make all my own meals. I don't go to bars, don't have bad habits like smoke or drink. I never gamble, not even crooked govt parlor lottos. Nothing extravagant here. No extras.
My hobbies are simple and cheap, exercise and guitar.

I have a good job, about $70,000+ a year. No dependants.
All surplus goes directly to smart tangible investments.

I feel for you, but you need to discipline yourselves the way I have.
It cames some getting use to but in the longer run you'll feel better about yourselves.

Ya'll think you are broke now? You will have a lot less money starting in January....you won't have that 130.00 that you have now.

And I'm not joking. Then the year after that you start either paying for health insurance or start paying the penalty..then your electric will go though the roof as the war on coal will be in it's final stages. If you only have 130.00 for 5 days now you will be about 200.00 in the hole come 2014.

You need to figure out a way to make more money.

And cut your expenses.

An RN? I am, too, and feel that an RN is able to get a job anywhere! I don't need the money, so I don't work now, but if the time comes that I must work, I certainly will!

What worries me are the families with children that have no job, no home, and what do they do? You say go find a job, WHERE? I hurt for the children, but let me tell you that Mother and Father's hearts are breaking too. GOD help them. I know we can never give up hope, but we need to find a way to help these people, not the lazy ones, druggies, or drinkers.

I don't worry about being one paycheck away from eviction, people are not dicks anymore, landlords in general are forgiving and you can even talk nice to the electric company and pay then a few bucks every so often and they'll keep your electricity on for months.

I live in Brooklyn, it's a tough place but landlords and people who work at the bodegas on the corner will even help you out if they know who you are.

The rest is just hanging in there and keep at working and doing the best you can when you do.
