To the folks collecting Unemployment, or any other government benefit. What wage would convince you to make the switch to the working world?

You are joking, right? I was on unemployment for the worst five months of my life, ending about a year ago. It is a pittance, and the worst part is, it runs out quick and once it is out, well, you are done. Like a hammer hanging over your head.

Anyway, I have a graduate degree and a really good resume. I am in my early 40's. I was told that I am overqualified, too young, too old, you name it. I finally found a job paying 2/3 what the job I was laid off from paid. I was one of the lucky ones because at least I have a job, but I don't feel very lucky. My student loans hang over me like a curse; I had every reason to believe that my degree would pay more than this and that my property would appreciate, not depreciate. At least for now my husband and I can afford to feed our two children.

I would honestly have to make more that what I'm making on unemployment. I think that is why some of us are trapped. Trust me I want to work, unemployment destroys your confindence, I feel like a loser but I would be a fool to get a job to lose money.
