Re: Ta'veren - a person around whom the Pattern of the World structures itself
James Oliver Rigney, Jr., pen name of Robert Jordan, author of a series of books known as The Wheel of Time was a Mason. The series revolves around people who are Ta'veren, and it is very reminiscent of memes floating around at this time. I have heard that 'Robert Jordan' was 'in the know' in the secret society circles.

I'm just going to present some information to spring board off. As you read through, you will see where I am going with this.

Ta'veren : "A person around whom the Wheel of Time weaves all surrounding life-threads, perhaps ALL life-threads, to form a Web of Destiny." (TEotW, Glossary). In simpler terms, a Ta'veren is a person around whom the Pattern of the world structures itself.
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

Web of Destiny
A ta'veren is a central focal point for a Web of Destiny in the Pattern. These people are spun out and used by the Wheel to correct itself when the weave begins to drift from the intended Pattern. Since the purpose of ta'veren is to influence life threads to create change, the destinies of ta'veren themselves are more strictly controlled by the Wheel of Time itself than those of an average person. These Webs of Destiny (or ta'maral'ailen in the Old Tongue) are almost always arduous for those that live through that Age but are an unfortunate necessity for the Wheel. The more change required, the more ta'veren that are born.

“The Wheel of Time weaves the Pattern of the Ages, and the threads it uses are lives. It is not fixed, the Pattern, not always. If a man tries to change the direction of his life and the Pattern has room for it, the Wheel just weaves on and takes it in. There is always room for small changes, but sometimes the Pattern simply won't accept a big change, no matter how hard you try....And sometimes the Wheel bends a life-thread, or several threads, in such a way that all the surrounding threads are forced to swirl around it, and those force other threads, and those still others, and on and on. That first bending to make the Web, that is ta'veren, and there is nothing you can do to change it, not until the Pattern itself changes. The Web - ta'maral'ailen, it's called - can last for weeks, or for years. It can take in a town, or even the whole Pattern.”

—Loial to Rand Al'Thor[3]

Ability

~ No one is born ta'veren, they are made as the Wheel needs them.

~Ta'veren affects those around them inadvertently i.e. they can cause a person to fall off a house and then get up without a scratch on them, yet someone else can easily trip over a stick and break their neck. Any action that occurs to someone because of being in the proximity of someone who is Ta'veren is only what they might have done, however improbable. For instance, if said person would never have jumped off of a building, then being close to Ta'veren would not change it. However, if said person would have jumped off the building once in million times, then being near a Ta'veren might make the person jump off of the building because however improbable the action is, it is possible for such an event to occur.

~Ta'veren generally have a great effect on probability, resulting in the perception that they have a "destiny." The ability does not seem to be consciously controllable. Rather, small quirks of fate--improbable events--combine to carry the Ta'veren in the direction that the Pattern requires.

~Strong Ta'veren can be tracked by following the trail of changes they leave in the pattern.

It sounds like they are describing the Avatars, but they would be incorrect in saying they are "made not born that way."

Avatars incarnate in ages when there chaos and darkness prevail. They restore order. There are several very powerful Avatars walking among us today. They change things. They do so effortlessly, with the slightest of intention (yes, it's controllable by Them) dropped into the Ocean of Awareness.

These are the Enlightened Ones from birth. They reestablish dharma (righteousness) when darkness begins to prevail. They bring balance to all kingdoms -- plant, animal, human, insect, mineral, etc.

We all have the ability to be a so-called Ta'veren to some extent if we can surrender our egos, but not like These Ones who are born with this purpose. They are powerful beyond all measure. We'll never be truly like Them as They are manifestations of Life Itself without ever having had the veil of ego/illusion covering Them. They have absolutely zero limits. And, they are very, very Real. I've met two of Them that I know of, though it could have easily been more than two if They didn't want me to know who They were.

Arianrhod (aree AN rod), whose name means "Silver Wheel", is a Goddess of fertility, the full moon, the stars, regeneration, and reincarnation, whose pathway is an eternal quest or thread that has no beginning or end. The spirit of Arianrhod is a symbol of prophecy and dreams. As a meditative glyph, She provides a glimpse of both the past and future, but the traveler must follow the Spirit of Arianrhod with an open heart and mind. She controls the time dimension that allows access to the whirlpool of Creation; an enigmatic vision of the universe as perceived by the Celts. She is the personification of the ever-turning Wheel of the Year. This wheel was also known as the Oar Wheel, a ship that carried dead warriors to the Moon-land (Emania). She is a primal figure of female power and authority and is considered an Ancestral Goddess of the Celts. The key to the nature of this Goddess is that She is a weaver, in control of the interactions of human lives and of the matter of creation itself. In Irish tradition we find that the Goddess of the Land of Erin may manifest as a weaver. She lives in a stellar realm, Caer Arianrhod - otherwise known as the Corona Borealis, with her female attendants and there she decides the fate of the dead. The Corona Borealis is the self-same constellation that is associated with Ariadne, a Greek resonance of Arianrhod. She is a very sexual Goddess and mates freely with any man she chooses, whenever she chooses, as her body is hers to do with, as she wants. For this reason she is often in open rebellion against patriarchal society. Many believe that her myths represent the shift from the time of Celtic women's full freedom to that of male centered clans and male domination of women.

the myths aren't just myths, they're personifications of our own attributes (god/men and goddesses/women)

when we can understand them we then can understand ourselves
the major gods and goddesses transcend different cultures across time, no matter the culture/people you'll find an arianrhod in their mythology along with other prominent gods/goddesses

The engravings translate to "This space intentionally left blank."

The prayer is inscribed in an ancient script, rarely used today. It seems to be a philippic against small insects, absent-mindedness, and the picking up and dropping of small objects.

The gate is open; through it you can see a desolation, with a pile of mangled bodies in one corner. Thousands of voices, lamenting some hideous fate, can be heard.
The way through the gate is barred by evil spirits, who jeer at your attempts to pass.

Yes, dragons and false dragons. And not all "false dragons" are bad. Some are needed in order to make the "transition".

I have read the series 3 times. Fantastic books.

And I agree, some serious masonic imagery/symbolism in those books.

Generally they are not to recognize themselves ahead of time. Those who do shouldn't be the type to go around boasting about it. You could say there are always more 'on deck,' like a very robust fail-safe mechanism.

It is... unnerving, to say the least, when one realizes as a child that a simple intention can affect those around.

I'm not sure we're even talking about Ta'veren, as Avatars seem far more powerful than how I see a Ta'veren being described here.

They make themselves known to those who are meant to know Them. They'll do things to make it crystal clear. Perhaps perform a certain unmistakable miracle. Or perhaps awaken a deep, unshakeable knowingness within. It's up to Them. They are the God-Men and God-Women of our world.

And, they don't "go around boasting about it." They are pure and utter humility. It is others that recognize Them for who and what they are and that speak of Them, as I am doing here.

Ta'veren's sound similar in a way, as Avatars also change the fabric of "reality" when its pattern starts to degrade into chaos and increased separation, but it seems to me some fiction was thrown in there that distorted the truth of who/what the Avatars are.

But how could you tell a Ta'veren what they should and shouldn't do?

Isn't that the point of it all? The wheel weaves as the wheel will's and all.

A Ta'veren destiny is fixed. At least, that's the concept. Such a person has little room to maneuver. That person has a path that they must walk. The only challenge being how far they can go.

By the way, when you type Ta'veren and see the red wavy line underneath it...the spell check suggestion is 'Reverent'.

Avatars, Ta'veren, Nobodies, etc. Call it what you want. The OP did not speak up Ta"veren to its fullest.

Ta'veren change everything around them. Just by being there. They do not need to act. There can be more than 1 Ta'Veren, although there seems to always be one greater than the rest.

Do you, SOS, think you may be a "Ta'veren" ? cool2

I don't see how I could be. I sit behind a desk for work. I have a feeling that others think I may be, but I don't know why they would.

I can see patterns in information though. Guess that may be something. lol

Re: Ta'veren - a person around whom the Pattern of the World structures itself

I dont think it is "fixed". Free will still exists. Not to mention, I think every possible option of human history is happening/happened at the same time our history happens.

In one timeline G.W. Bush was a great president. In another Abraham Lincoln let slavery live on. etc.

Every timeline/option "lays on top" of our current time line.

IMHO.

How could you recognize them as Ta'veren?
 Quoting: Jonny Blaze

Generally they are not to recognize themselves ahead of time. Those who do shouldn't be the type to go around boasting about it. You could say there are always more 'on deck,' like a very robust fail-safe mechanism.

It is... unnerving, to say the least, when one realizes as a child that a simple intention can affect those around.
 Quoting: The Gallows

But how could you tell a Ta'veren what they should and shouldn't do?

Isn't that the point of it all? The wheel weaves as the wheel will's and all.

A Ta'veren destiny is fixed. At least, that's the concept. Such a person has little room to maneuver. That person has a path that they must walk. The only challenge being how far they can go.

By the way, when you type Ta'veren and see the red wavy line underneath it...the spell check suggestion is 'Reverent'.

I'll throw out another term you may not be familiar with - avdhoot.

Avatar is a physical manifestation of a god, or whatever term you like. Their bodies are said to be of light from when they manifest.

Avdhoot is a rather normal person ascending to godhood, or whatever term you like. Their bodies are standard until the light is kindled.

I would liken the concept of Ta'veren to an avdhoot, although they may not consciously ascend to perform their duty.
