Martial Law (test city?) in Illinois - East St. Louis
[link to stlouis.cbslocal.com]

if you read down the article, the headline seems to be misleading - it is not just Minors who are being targeted.

>>>Asked about Constitutional concerns, and the need for probable cause, Parks says the recent wave of crime is the probable cause and justifies the extreme new measures.

“Vehicles that are moving will be stopped and searched for guns, weapons, drugs, and open alcohol and any other violations that are taking place,” Parks later told KMOX’s Mark Reardon. “People who are walking, people who are bicycling, can be stopped and searched for the same and, when it comes to state IDs, we’re going to be confirming that state IDs are in place for everyone involved.”<<<

makes you go "hhhmmm" doesn't it?

Obviously you know nothing about East St. Louis, its a total jungle. This is a step in the right direction finally, I don't see how they're going to enforce it though. The police are so corrupt and incompetent, it's going to take the military to get that town cleaned up.

E.St.Louis used to be such a beautiful city, both sides of my family and myself were originally from there but had to leave in the 60's and 70's because of the crime. My father still worked there and did so until he died. He had his cars broken into and robbed so many times, I couldn't believe he continued to work there.

How many fellow St.Louisans have accidently ended up in East St. Louis whilst travelling down I-70......

I refer to it as "the baptism." Everyone I know has done it at least once - myself included. :)

I've seen this many times, I've often wondered how many lost travelers have disappeared there. There are so many murders there that go unreported, I don't know how they cover it up.

The 1964 Civil Rights Act saw an increase of southern blacks head north to fill jobs. They were even bused up to make less money.

I was just looking at the demographics there because of the "Army spraying radioactive particle" article:

1950 - 900,000 82% white

2010 - 380,000 49% black

Part of the loss they say was due to blacks coming in but also could have been the spraying -- people DIED.

The martial law stuff from the mayor looks like it is in response to the violence in Chicago.

I have to admit.....their new methods of dealing with this very old problem I am uncomfortable with. It's easy to see them being effective measures in a very crime-ridden area....but what is good for one community can also be said to be good for all communities........just an observation.

St.Louis desperately needs to expand into e.st.louis, they have been trying to for decades, I think that is what they're trying to do. Pat Quinn seems to be the one really putting the pressure on the city to clean up.

Just deport everyone from St. Louis and Chicago to Kenya and be over it.

No Cubs or Cardinals jerseys.

“No royal blue, no bright red to be worn by our men or our boys in this community,” Parks said. “Why is that? Those colors have long been affiliated with gang kinds of affiliations”

Re: Martial Law (test city?) in Illinois - East St. Louis
It is really sad it has come to this. Growing up in the St. Louis area I can tell you something needs to be done there. And the residents aren't willing to make the right things happen so it has to come to a curfew and a ban on clothing colors and where you get to hang out. Its a shame. If everyone in the community would have stepped up and done the right thing this wouldn't be necessary. Unfortunately it is needed at this time. Hope the youth in that area comes to their senses but I doubt it, it has been to long for most to understand that what happens there is not normal.
