Boat collision near Lamma sets off major rescue mission

Initial reports from police say a boat belonging to HK Electric crashed into a small passenger ferry, called a Kaito - which is now partly submerged.

Police say there were about 100 people onboard both vessels, with many of them in the water.

It is known that passengers on board didnt wear safety coats before the accident.

Survivers said "there are 120 ppl on board", higher than the reported 100 RT

The ferry collided the kaito on the side at a high speed; kaito sunk vertically from the rear end. Passengers dont have time to save kids.

Hong Kong Electric said the kaito(small ferry) is rented to employees for private event

Some severe victims need repeated CPR.

HK Electric official refused to name the suspected hit&run ship. But HK ppl widely thought that could be a ship from the mainland.

The HKKF ferry seemed to be damaged and water runs into it. Reason why passenegers asked to head back to pier as in the reports.
