Who loves whiskey?
I do love the whiskey. I have close to 30 gallons of my favorite spirits in my prep supplies. This is taking up a shit load of room.

How hard is it to make your own? Anyone on here tried?

I'm thinking if I practice, a still would take up less room, and I could make and trade the home brew.

I have read up on it, and it seems pretty straight forward.

Any advice? Thanks.
John

30 gallons you have stored??
Holy shit!

Yeah, I was looking into a very nice distiller from Europe and thinking how great it would be. You could use it for
- distilling yucky water
- making alcohol for fuel
- making your own hard booze

Re: Who loves whiskey?
Me and the hubby used to make our own spirits. We`d make it at about 50% strength for the end product. Spirits and liquors . Damn we made everything and they were damn nice. It`s not hard to make your own. You need a still, water, sugar and your flavours and a couple of other ingredients which at present have slipped my mind. You need to ferment the sugar and water and yeast mixture at a constant temperature for a week or two ( please don`t quote me on the time, this as it was many years ago )Temperature during the fermenting process is very important. Then once it has stopped bubbling you run it through your still. You need to run cold water through it to keep the temperature of the still at a constant temp so it does not explode and you don`t burn off your grog. The first 50 ml that come out is ethanol, which you can discard or use as a bench cleaner then after that your alcohol comes out, . We used to get about 5 ltr of pure,at about 90%, then you break it down with distilled water and flavour it up. Good times hahaa.. It is a fair bit of work and it does take a few weeks from start to finish but it was worth it. The still also comes in handy for purifying water which might/will be a bonus down the track. We made alot of burbon and baileys type drinks, midoris, hell we made everything laugh :beerbeerbeer:
