Police said they hoped to gain information from the man to trace the missing five-year-old and bring her home to her family alive.

"We are pursuing the inquiry as if she's still alive," an officer told Sky News.

"We knew he was in the area and he has a vehicle similar to the one Megan was seen getting into" he added.
