Because it's not a road to the other side, it's more like a pier -- which they built to position machinery near the sinkhole.

And it fell off into the sinkhole, rather than "dissolved", like in an acid solution.

The ground beneath the end of the pier collapsed into the sinkhole.

And I hope that trackhoe operator is getting paid well for the risk he is taking.

If this is actually a "sinkhole" where are the trees that should be lying on their sides, or whatnot....I'm still nott convinced of this "sinkhole" - Looks like a swamp that may be filling with extra rainwater, or runoff....
