All of your decision making needs to be spent on what you intend to do with the gold. Also, if you plan to use it as a currency hedge.

Gold can be very valuable, or it can be worth nothing, if used in the wrong form, at the wrong time, and for the wrong reason.

You can't gold EAT!

You didn't get it ;) Nevermind.

OP, consider buying some silver too.

Clearly JPM is defending $35. Every time silver approaches or punches through $35, sell volume goes through the roof.

I love all the answers and advise.

Some, if not all advises given so far, are based on some kind of pre-determined, available market, to sell said gold. This is how the West thinks.

But when it comes time to trade your gold for food, a tool you need, or whatever, will these avenues mentioned above help you? or be gone and unavailable??

Think wisely my friend.

Besides gold can be obtained fairly cheap, and relatively risk free, based on historical information available.

Seeing how your in the USA I'd advise US Gold Eagles.

It's constitutional money, authorised by congress which can only be to your advantage should confiscation come.

It's available in 1/10th, 1/4, 1/2 and 1 oz sizes. It is recognisable world wide and easily sold in any coin shop or online at any bullion dealer.

You should maybe pick up a few silver eagles as well.

You don't say how much you plan to buy but whatever you do..don't tell anyone you have it. When the SHTF you friends and family will come after it. Be very careful. Buy only physical metal and keep it in you possession.

Peace

Any reputable coin dealer in every town in America sells gold and silver bullion coins. It's as easy as walking in and buying a few coins.

The coins are legit. They come in a case with papers, and most of the time they are older mints so you know they are before the tungsten hoax phenomenon.

Buying offline is risky. Buying paper gold is just plain stupid.

Isn't is supposed to be "buy low, sell high" and not the other way around? The time to buy gold and silver was 5-10 years ago or earlier, not immediately following an announcement of more quantitative easing which has spiked the price up recently.

Once this all blows over in a couple of years there are going to be a lot of gold-tards with red faces... Warren Buffet says it best:

“Gold is a way of going long on fear, and it has been a pretty good way of going long on fear from time to time. But you really have to hope people become more afraid in a year or two years than they are now. And if they become more afraid you make money, if they become less afraid you lose money, but the gold itself doesn’t produce anything.”

Make sure you have plenty of food and a lead delivery device first. Then find a good company to buy your gold AND silver from. Avoid the larger bars and anything from China, do to all the fake gold out there.

Buy a good safe and an ok safe. Never talk about what is in the good safe, and hide it so that an intruder would never find it. Keep a few silver coins and some legal documents in the okay safe. Keep your gold coins and the bulk of your silver in the good safe.

I repeat, never talk about what is in the good safe. If you go around town talking about how many ounces you have, then men with guns will come and take it all away from you.

Credit Suisse is one of the most respected and well known bar coins of gold. It's regarded by most to be the standard, and these bars will often resell for higher prices because of the trust there is in that brand.

However, as I hope gold prices will soar soon, aside of SHTF theories its unlikely. Though I believe in SHTF theories.

I picked up an oz when it was still selling for 600oz. In the past Gold had a simular event where it soared in price, like it did over the past 5 years, and then sat for decades.

it is however a great investment regardless of how you look at it as it will only go up in price, and it holds its price very well.

It is not the federal reserves policy to allow deflation.

How do you intend to make money on gold? I don't view metals as an avenue to make money, I see it as an insurance policy for your assets against inflation and economic collapse.

Given the recent "tungsten" bar scares, I'd suggest Kruggerands, in 1/4 and 1/10 Troy ounce.

Yes, you will pay a bigger premium than when buying bars, or 1 Toz coins.

But, you are almost 100% certain to have the advertised weight in .9999 gold.

And small denomination gold coins are more useful for day-to-day transactions.

That is one way but I don't do that. Mainly because you really aren't buying gold, per sey, you are buying shares in a company that may or may not have good management, and can tank just like any other company.

One thing I do, is invest in small mining operators as a joint venture. This is good if you have the time to go check out the claim and evaluate. Plus you have a say on how things are managed. In this way, you will get your cut/% in raw gold. Right now the mining cost to extract and refine gold here in the PI and in most gold mining countries is about $350.00 per ounce. So the profit is good and the risks are low if you know what you are doing.

Another way to get gold is thru the junk market, Old jewlry, old electronic circuit boards, and many other ways.
These can be time consuming and you do need some knowledge on how to refine etc. But again quite profitable.

In there US there are many places where you can go mine yourself. Its pretty easy actually but you will sweat. There are many claims that are shared where you go and do your mining and just give a share back to the land owner.

The cheapest gold can be found in the emerging and 3rd world, mineral rich countries like the PI. Here there is lots of opportunity

Gold and Silver are a preservation of wealth, not a means to acquire more.

Before you buy these things, you must have:

6 months supply of food varieties stored.
Means to protect your store.
An established means to grow / harvest / cultivate / farm / herd more food.

After you have these things, then consider perserving your excess monetary funds into a more tangible commodity.

Silver / Gold / Rice bags / Corn stock.

Don't be a fool to the game of numbers. You're a human. I'm a human. Other human's are around too.

Humans are animals.

Animals attempt to survive. Survival by any means necessary.
You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness. Like resignation to the end, always the end.

Just a little happiness and health is all I wanted.
