Will Syrian soldiers sit back if they are pounded to a pulp? Probably not. The insurgents are supplied by US, France and UK, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. It would be odd if they attacked Turkey, but they will continue to attack Syrian forces. However the Kurds are the wild card: along both sides of the border they may attack Turkey (500 Kurdish were killed in Turkey this year, and Assad seems to have a hands off policy for them in Syria which allows them to more easily traverse the border).
