I got terrible grades in law school for the same reason. I failed to finish a Masters Degree for the same reason. This is a real addiction in my life. A therapist laughed at me a couple of years ago when I suggested that I'm addicted to the internet. But it makes me mad that she laughed because obviously people get addicted. I trace my addiction all the way back to the Atari 2600 in my early childhood. I have always been chained to a screen. What do I do? Quoting: Tired of Selfish People 19910005 Make for yourself a program, internet only after school and job, mainly in the evening, but not after 11, 30. Try it! P.S. Remember, the real life is counting, not the virtual one, in the end. |

| ll User ID: 24392356 10/03/2012 03:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | don't listen to Trinity. it is stupid to separate virtual from "real life". Life includes everything. Life is happening. On the other hand, we have many addiction each and every one of us, be it internet or coffee or eating or washing your teeth or drinking or doing drugs or feeling anxious or meditating.... there are a wide variety of it. Just choose what you want, and if you feel that for example internet is destructive to you, change this habit with something else, like reading a book of law mechanics etc... (remember changing habit takes about three weeks, so initial effort is always needed) On the third hand you can just practice awareness, whatever happens just be extremely and acutely aware of what you are doing, what is being done to you and why it is being done, don't change, don't resist, don't react, just watch, and you will see some wonders happening, bad habits falling away without any effort on your part.... though this is not easy, but very effective. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 19444504 10/03/2012 03:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I too had the same problem... I was addicted to both the Internet and gaming... What changed in my life was that I met a woman over the net, fell in love and decided that if I want to keep this relationship, I had better change the way I live. So I manned up and sold my computer. I've been with her over 3 years now still don't own a computer, we both own an iPad. The only way you can fix this in my opinion is to get rid of your computer. It needed to be done for me otherwise this relationship would have never worked. To this day I am a much happier person. I take part in much more activitys, you would be suprised just how much fun life is without a computer! Good luck buddy |

Now I tell myself it's better to be addicted to the internet and reading information on a lot of interesting things than being an alcoholic. But I'm also trying to work on this cure. I also make my money from the internet. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24874470 then get up, go over to your neighbors, introduce yourself and get back to life. slap it's not easy when you have addiction, you will have to fill that void with something that was internet before and that is most difficult because you always think of Internet, so your focus is on Internet all the time making you wanna go there. There's a reason why addiction is an epic bitch. |

| Tired of Selfish People (OP) User ID: 19910005 10/03/2012 04:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks for the thoughts, folks. My problem is that I'm a lawyer. I work on the computer every day. It is SO hard to focus on my work long enough to get anything done. I am constantly thinking about the internet while I'm drafting motions and memoranda about cases I am working on. Thankfully, I am not addicted to porn. That would make my addiction much, much worse in my opinion. One thing I do know, I need more exercise. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 300884 10/03/2012 04:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 90% here are addicted to the internet and porn not just to GLP and those who deny that, don't know shit about what is going in their life and therefor sinking in. Quoting: Buddah 24382381 So for starters it's good to know and be aware of your addiction than being denial. I'm not addicted to the internet! I just spend all my waking time on it! ![]() |
