When Bush was President I owned companies, had up to 75 employees, AVERAGE take home around 385k a year, and owned @ least three homes. Now...
When Bush was President I owned two companies (one with my husband), his had up to 75 employees and mine up to 4.
We owned @ least three homes from the years 2000 to 2009 (rental, personal and @ least one spec at all times).
We had a average credit score of 835, mine was higher than my husband's :0)

AND NOW...

Closed one company and bankrupted another in 2010 (we were treading water from 2007-2010). One was building second homes, another was a restaurant.

Short sold (feel good word for forclose) 2 houses, and had a third forclose on us.

My husband and I are both in school full time about to finish up degrees that we never finished when we were younger. We also both work full time for under $10 an hour. We get food stamps and medicaid for our boys, Federal Pell grants for school, and subsidized student loans as well.

By Dec. of 2013 we will both be graduated and hope to make at that time around $60k (gross) a year (if we can both get full time work).

It still seems like yesterday that life was simpler and less stressed, when I could go to the store and not have to check my bank account every time before leaving. I miss that life!!!!

I BET YOU CAN'T GUESS WHO I AM VOTING FOR???!!!???

Don't give me the it is all Bush's fault, because I don't buy that! Nor do I think that it is all Obama's fault!

I believe the main reason (there are many others) for the mess we are in is due to the laws that came into effect in the late 90's early 2000's that forced banks to loan money to people with no jobs, or mortgage a house that they could not afford.

Can't wait for the debate!!!popcorn

No OP you still need to wake up. We are in this mess because it was planned many years ago with the inception of the federal reserve and fractional reserve lending. Please YouTube these things and watch the documentary called THRIVE. It will help clarify.

Well I guess it's a good thing you've got all that money in the bank from when you "took home $385K a year" then, eh? Only a fool goes from making that much to "treading water for $10 and hour."

You are either full of shit or the worst business owner/money manager in the world.

Boy there really are some dumb shits in this world.

You remember the housing boom? You think houses held there value after things started going South? Things were great back then weren't they? You would think real estate would be a good investment, and they would have, if the money men weren't intentionally sabotaging the economy to make themselves even richer. I hate to say it , but you're an ignorant F@@l.

OP, I hope you consider this a humbling experience. You were fortunate enough to live the "good life" for a spell. Just as quick as we gain material things, we can lose them.

Please don't be upset at the fact you lost your material items, be grateful that you have your health, and are fortunate enough to obtain your degrees and live a modest life moving forward. Many out there don't have that option or luxury.

To place blame on your loss is not accepting the loss for what it is. You are responsible for your own experience here, and if that means "winning" and then "losing", well at least you accomplished what you were meant to accomplish hf
SMILE...you're not as stupid as they think you are!

I know all about the Clinton policies, and those before him! Ron Paul, I love that man, but I am not sure that I can waste my vote. I cannot help Obama stay in office by not voting for Romney. He is better then many of the Repub. choices we could have gotten. Besides, I think Paul Ryan rocks! I wish Romney would announce his cabinet and include Ron Paul as Fed Chief!

LOL @ "Silicone Valley". Is that like, between a porn star's tits or something? It' SILICON Valley, dumbass.

I'm actually 40 years old and coasted through the financial crisis just fine. Still have the job I did before it, actually. The stocks I purchased during and after have doubled in some cases, while paying me dividends the whole time.

I'm doing fine, and sure as hell don't make any $385K a year either. That's because I live below my means and never really considered housing to be a great investment. I get my real estate exposure through REITs and development companies and rent a place close to work so I can walk there.
