I inherited my father's shotgun and I'm female. My brother had it but decided he didn't want it so he gave it to me. You never know how your kids will turn out I guess.

I was a bad kid at age 13 when I started, differently bad then your kid. My pop made the wise choice to sub-contract his beatings to a traditional karate-master and former marine corps DI. When I started I was the only 'youth' in an adult class with mostly brown and black-belts and I got my ass beat-down every night for a long time. I ended up doing continuously for about 8 years and it made me into the MAN I am today.

He may turn around later on. My husband never disliked guns really, but wasn't especially into hunting etc. You'd never know that now.

The camping trip idea sounds like a good one though.
