Loud BOOM heard in North Texas, in about a 25 mile radius.
News says they are getting calls from people who heard a loud BOOM in the North Texas area, from Carrollton, Frisco, Plano and all the way to Garland and Rockwall.

My guess is a sonic boom.

I heard this in Addison at roughly 9:40am. It did not sound like a sonic boom. More like a pretty good size explosion. And not like a transformer exploding.

I was in a meeting in far west plano, but it's been sound proofed since it is right next to an elevator, so I didn't hear anything. But the distance it was heard over made me think it was a song boom. Plus there is an air show at alliance this weekend.

Status Update
By City of Coppell, TX Municipal Government
Luminant will proceed with the implosion of the third unit at the Luminant North Lake Power Plant on Thursday morning, October 4, 2012, if the weather and other necessary conditions are favorable. The implosion will occur sometime before 11 a.m. A large number of law enforcement officers will be present to secure the immediate site. The safety radius does not reach Belt Line Road, however, the roadway will be closed to all traffic during the actual implosion. You may hear a loud noise and see a dust cloud. The Luminant Community Relations Office can be reached at [email protected] should you have any questions. There will be no public access.

This boom happened at 9:40 though. But there has not been a reported time of when this implosion will go off. But that should not be heard all the way east to Garland.

Could have been a meteor impacting the upper atmosphere and explodes really high up.

25 mile radius seems about right for this.....speculation. Any evidence of meteor activity on the radio frequencies at the time?

From ISP:

China Telecom is currently experiencing peering issues through AlterNet. We have temporarily shifted incoming route announcements to work around the issue. Normal routing will be restored once the China Telecom / AlterNet peering issue has been fixed.
