How conveniant right before the election.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 815535

The California vote is important.

A vote for Romney is a vote for energy independence, and increased domestic production, as well as expansion of refining capacity.

Energy security is economic security.

Yeah... it's all something like that...

It's all so goddamned predictable and pathetic... But it is effective.

In the end, it really doesn't matter.

This phenomena is called "STRATEGIC ACCIDENTS" where the oil companies timingly induce an "accident" (fake) and open the gates for a price increase. Simple as that. It is all about money, is't it? They spend 10 Million fixing it but earn additional 100 million in revenue. Nice.

No re-supply until mid October.

Is this some sort of way to acclimate the public to rationing?
Prices are going up, went up 13 cents over night at the Arco by my home in San Diego... if this is true I'm sure we'll see hoarders and price gouging.

im right next door to this bastard i just paid 499 a gallon from him the price gouger the station down the street was 469 calling the news

LMAO. 1000 gallons will really help your children and your grandchildren. 1000 gallons lasts just long enough to ensure you are around for the real suffering.

I think that's funny, what they are setting themselves up for. If they really want to be around to enjoy human bbq then more power to 'em I guess.

If big oil was trying to put the smaller guys out of business, why would they say relief is expected midway through October? "

Once again idiot--The requirements for blended ethanol gas ends for certain areas of Cal.
 Quoting: Brevet

You obviously don't know what it's like to be a smaller guy. Our business was taken out by the oil companies in the first wave of this kind of thing back in the early 2000's. What is happening is that the prices for the unbranded gasoline are elevating rapidly at the rack. They can either buy some extremely expensive gas at prices so high that it will not sell or close their doors and hope it ends sometime soon. We were losing about a quarter of a million a month when they did it to us and that was just pricing at 25 cents over rack. Little guys are the small fish. The rationing isn't affecting branded gases.

You have to understand that this is all about market control. People don't realize how embedded they are with each other. Back in the mid 90's, I had insider information in regards to one merger but the funny thing was that customers who were purchasing the gas didn't even bat their eyes at the fact that they could now use two different oil company credit cards at the same station. I don't think the merger was even reported. Few years later, yet another merger that went relatively unreported and again, nobody really batted an eye when they could now use three different oil company cards at a station. Now that was in the mid to late 90's that it was like that. I'm no longer privy to any inside information on these kind of things anymore as they took us out. However, I have tried to look into the state of things now and it's really kind of interesting and scary. The lines are incredibly blurred with joint ventures today whether it be a joint venture for a refinery or an oil well. I know that locally we technically have only three different retailers at the end of the day. Two are grocery store. The other is Royal Dutch Shell regardless of logo. The supplier? Well guess who that is.

Re: Gas Shortage in San Diego CA. Pumps dry by Sunday?
What's being affected the most, according to that article, is independent gas dealers--not necessarily every gas station in San Diego. By now, there is probably a significant number of company owned stores and there is no word on whether or not this shortage will affect them. Just the independents. That isn't to say that the company owned stores will not abuse the shortage to the independents by raising their prices accordingly to fleece the public. I'm actually quite certain they will as that is precisely what they did about 10 years ago in the Portland metro area during their bid to eliminate competition from independents.

The reason why they may be doing this intentionally is to actually release those station properties for acquisition and transfer into in-house retail operations (company owned stores). Gas stations are expensive to build and frequently require special zoning in major cities so the properties themselves are scarce. Cheaper to crush the independents and buy up their properties than to push for permits and other building costs. A local company owned station in my area cost approximately $3 million to build to give an idea of costs with little guarantee of being a successful location. That one was a "dog". Pre-existing sites are less likely to be dogs.

I grew up in this particular world so I very much comprehend what is done by the major oil companies.

This is why it's important to pay attention!

The moment this story broke my wife and I filled our tanks and we warned our friends to get gas asap.

Now all the people who just watch reality shows are running to the pumps tonight because this story has finally made it to social media. I'm sure there are still some hipsters and reality show junkies that still have no idea.

Police are directing traffic, stations are closing, and some are claiming they are being rationed to only a few gallons. Oh and Cheveron isn't accepting credit purchases anymore. 24 hours ago this story broke, and look at what's already happened.

Just imagine how bad things will be on Sunday! Minor chaos in 24 hours, means there will be serious chaos in 96 hours.

Those last to act will be up the creek.
If you have any sick days saved up you might want to put in your request for the latter part of next week just in case.

my report today went looking for cheap gas in my area and noticed that some gas stations are not selling gas. NOW I KNOW WHY!

CA will become Greece soon then the rest of the country will go down.

Wow, already? This just happened over night! Better get gas now while you still can. Many places are already charging over 4.50/gal. Would't be surprised if we hit the $5 mark soon.

I have a 100Gal above ground gas storage tank in my backyard, and access to the farmer next door's 1,000 gal tank of 100% gas.

In my part of the country, LOTS of us have AGST's, and often contract with the co-op for deliveries.

Maybe, just maybe there is another reason for this.
Someone said L.A. was being chemtrailed heavily yesterday.
Plus there have been major earthquake storms.
Perhaps they KNOW the big one is coming and are trying to cut down on flammable substances.
Just a thought.
