Years ago when they started tracking transactions more after 9/11, at least it was under the guise of counter terrorism. Now they don't even bother giving a reason; they just pass what they want, when they want.

Flea markets are great. In my neck of the woods (probably elsewhere too), they are referred to as Dirt Malls.

My kids, being all boys, are naturally into knives and bb guns, so flea markets appeal to their needs and budget...I hate going though...it's usually just junk

So basically anybody that has a garage sale that sells something made in another country will be breaking copyright laws?

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24959731

The case before the Supreme Court involved over a million dollars worth of books, which are copyrighted.

I can't imagine this would apply to clothing, furniture, etc. They are knocked off so freely anyway!

If the reseller loses, this will be big!

I thought they already had a similar law in Louisiana?

This means we all need to ALWAYS buy American. What a bunch of bs!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11677814

If they would Grandfather stuff you already owned before the new law was passed, then it wouldnot be such an insane
mess-o-things after all.

The new law could cause:
Women could start dragging out their old sewing machines, and men start using their tools full time.

Meh this is the same Caliber as saying oh look Oklahoma has a law that doesn't allow people to eat a cheeseburger on the sidewalk. It's just going to be one of those things that will never be enforced.

This is in essence the big Corps crying because people actually dare to make money off something they bought themselves... Oh the travesty of it!

By law this wouldn't go through anyway due to the contradiction of purchasing something and OWNING it.

The only way they could get away with this is making it so you can't buy phones only lease them.

They can't get any money out of it.

There goes your garage sales, yard sales, lemon aid stands,
estate sales, etc.

They want their money in tax and license.

No more pawn shops either I would imagine....

No more craigslist.

Because the government is pissed that they can't collect tax dollars. The corporations are pissed because they loose money. The government owns a stake in the corporations through the collected tax dollars. Big government and corporations screwing the little guy once again.

Here's another thing that would happen. FORCED STORAGE, unless you just give the stuff away or to goodwill, but it might be illegal to put it in trash at some point or just leave it somewhere.

People will be forced to get storage for stuff they can't get rid of.

Which could be exactly the point. What do people do when the economy goes down the drain and they need things? They start buying things secondhand.
When they buy thing secondhand its usually garage sales, an offer from the internet, local advertisement. Business between citizens, and the corporation has no longer any claim to any profit or earnings, neither does the government because there is no tax on secondhand goods.

Revenue loss.. they do no longer sell brand new things because people cannot afford them.

Leasing however, creates a MASSIVE profit overall. More often then not over the period of time people lease an object, if they would have saved up for it by the end of the lease contract they could have bought the same thing twice.

And then there is the other option, buying something and paying it off a smll amount each month, which works the same way, by the time you have payed it off you couldve bought it twice for the same amount of money due to the interest, because it is basically a loan.

Tadaa.. revenue shoots up!

What would stop the college book store from sending someone overseas to buy many books and then resell in the college book store?

If the put limit of resale to allow you to resell after you have used, we will be fine.

Most of us have art on our walls. When I die the kids can sell it because they are getting rid of something I had USED.

The case that brought everything out in the open was for this young person trying to make money and resell something that had NOT been used.

Big difference people.

Thrift stores as well. Sad because many of the thrift stores in my area support something. A few are run by a local church and all of the proceeds go towards the food pantry, programs that make sure children have good winter gear (coats, hats, gloves, boots, snow pants), and help with school supplies. Not to mention, we sell these things and get money to.. what? Put back into the economy.

Maybe this is why they are against having small gardens and giving away the produce. They can't make any taxes off it and the corporations suffer.

What stops the original seller of these books to sell them for the same price in every country, and thereby no longer giving a small guy the change to make some bucks?
Remember, he only saw a way to make money because the books were sold for insane prices and for far lower prices elsewhere.

Ofcourse, the currency and inflation etc is different in various country, however, the company would never sell those books in countries with lower prices if there were not already making profits on those small prices. Meaning they make insane profits on selling those books in western countries.
So their greed created a backalley for a small 'middle man' and created their own problem.
