Theories why Obama did so badly

Plain and simple. Obama cannot speak extemporaneously.

He wasn't prepared, and cannot think on his feet without the aid of writers and telepromptors.

He should go to Toastmasters and practice "Table Topics".

Are any GLPers also members of Toastmasters Intl?

TM is a very worthwhile organization to join if you want to communicate effectively "while on your feet".

I guess I will try to be the first person to address the topic seriously.

First, Mitt Romney has done nothing for the past eight years but run for president, so THAT is the one thing he is best at right now--performing.

Second, Mitt Romney has nothing else on his mind than running for president. Let's think of some things that could have been on Obama's mind last night:

The Turkish parliament had just authorized President Erdogan to invade Syria, if he thinks he must.

Afghanistan is getting deadlier for American troops because of attacks from Afghan military and police.

Sectarian violence in Iraq is prompting a discussion between the U.S. and Iraq to return American troops.

Drone war in Pakistan causing problems.

Blowback from Benghazi.

What is President Morsi really up to in Egypt?

Riots in Greece and Spain and what they portend for other European countries.

Will Israel attack Iran?

Will Iran preemptively attack Israel?

Drone war in Yemen causing instability.

Drone war in Somalia.

Drone war in Sudan.

Special Forces in Africa to help find Joseph Kony, among "other" things.

China and Japan are facing off in a tiff over islands in the South China Sea.

And that is just stuff hitting the fan on the international scene.

Meanwhile, Mitt was just practising his AMWAY act.

As soon as the debate was over, Mitt went back to campaigning, while Obama went back to being president.

Obama will still win. Did you all pay attention to the yellow line?

Just because Obama didn't win the first debate, doesn't mean he won't win the election - er, selection.

Yeah, and he could do that because for the previous 50 years, he's been helping the sick and the poor, building businesses successfully, managing hundreds of millions of dollars, and employing tens of thousands of people.

Kind of a significant contrast to the Mysterious Community Organizer, huh?

I got the impression during the debate that Obama knows Romney is correct about how the economy works and how increased government intervention in it bogs things down and brings on recession and just didn't have the heart or energy that particular night to argue about it even tho that is what he is supposed to do to as a democrat.

Wow, you will mention the Benghazi debacle in the same list as other things Obama is ignoring or not paying enough attention to? Good luck with that.

The only things he sucks worse at than debating Mitt Romney is being Commander in Chief. Talk about an empty suit...

I suppose when the Benghazi disaster comes up in the foreign policy debate, he will cite "executive privilege" as a cop out and you will be perfectly fine with that...

I gotta believe the President is worried about the Suspicious Activity Reports being generated from all the foreign donations coming from the Middle East, particularly IRAN, as they did in 2008. There is a donor scandal that the media is holding the lid on tightly. But some things stinks so back that there is no lid large enough or tight enough to prevent the stench.

A combination of the following:

People expected more from Obama and expected less from Romney. Obama didn't live up to the expectations and Romney didn't appear to be completely retarded.

Romney came prepared and had memorized clear cut answers to questions which were to be expected. Obama appeared to be winging it.

It is easier to be in the opposition and attack policies than to defend your policies.

If you didn't think Romney was forced to defend his own positions, you didn't watch the same debate I did...

You always know exactly what Democrats are up to, because they accuse Republicans of doing it:

Let me simplify your observation even further:

Many, if not most, viewers have never seen Romney speak, period. The MSM won't cover his speechs or play complete soundbites of him speaking, because they are coherent and damaging to the libtard cause.

Many, if not most, viewers have never seen Obama speak without a teleprompter.

Obama spaced out on drugs, maybe dead....what they sent in was a clone....without the teleprompter....clones are useless.

What I am saying is that it is easier to criticize someone who is in the drivers seat than driving yourself. You know, like couch potatoes are always complaining and telling athletes what they should do or should have done.

Especially in hindsight it is easier to point out the flaws of Obama's policies.

Obama was forced to defend what he has done (and rightfully so), whereas Romney can simply theorize what he would do.

It is the difference between wanting to get something done, and actually getting it done.

During elections, candidates spout great ideas but every time such a candidate actually becomes the president, they mess up royally.

Romney is a worthless dunce...he is out of touch with reality of the USA...he lives in his bubble of wealth from his company Staples and Bain Capital....which went bankrupt; with Romney being a 3rd Cousin to Bush Sr...Romney received a taxpayer bailout compliments from the secretary US Treasury....otherwise Romney would be on welfare, bankrupt.

the only electable candidate is Ron Paul; write him in!

i heard the electorial college will vote for Ron Paul, in lieu of Romney, since Romney is not a natural born citizen...the electors have demanded proper official birth certificates proving both candidates for POTUS are natural born citizens......if they don't supply these documents...the electors will vote for Ron Paul, and have every legal right to do so; declared in the U.S.Constitution and MINOR v HAPPERSETT, US 88, 162, 21(Wall), 162 validates the electorial college voting for Ron Paul, a natural born citizen and candidate for POTUS.

As soon as the debate was over, Obama went back to campaigning also.

I am not sure if that is true. I think Romney has been given plenty of airtime on especially the right leaning news channels.

I have seen Romney plenty of times during this campaign and his performance in this debate was much better than what I have seen before. He actually surprised me.

We all know that Obama is horrible when he is not prepared or doesn't have his teleprompter. Therefore I (and many Americans) expected a well prepared and motivated Obama. But he didn't show up.
