The general knowledge amongst the masses is abysmal. |

We should have tons of Geo-thermal plants wherever they are feasible. The yellow stone caldera would be perfect for a enormous power plant. You build it outside of the national park, but you build it enormous so that it can sent out to the rest of the country. Wyoming is centrally located to send it out to the whole country. |

Fracking can lead to increased earthquake activity and I'm not sure it is a good idea to "poke a stick" at the Three Sisters. Not to mention they have found undersea volcanoes off the Oregon Coast. Seems like a small possibility of lighting up the Cascadia Subduction Zone. Break enough rocks and the Magma has an easy route to the surface. It's really that simple. The Magma is under pressure. Right now it's contained and at a status quo. Balanced. Not moving much, not going up or down. It may remain in that state for thousands of years. It is contained in a super-thick rock-thermos bottle - so to speak. But along comes mankind in his vanity and greed for energy and cracks the very rock that is containing this molten rock the size of several lakes. The stuff, once released, is going to be forced upward onto the surface and out into the world we live in. Surely there has to be a safer way to make steam than to risk this kind of explosion or worse. |
