He walks in and everyone is instantly well behaved. We have a treaty with both Taiwan & Japan. What if they get into a battle with each other? How do you handle that one? And, then of course there's China. |

If they want the US nuked, we'll be nuked. Every war in the past 200 years has been manufactured with a predetermined winner. |

Quoting: DL The news was announced by the Navy a few days ago, but is now making the rounds in Asian media outlets, and generating as much speculation as it is concern. The Washington will be operating in the East China Sea near the disputed Diaoyutai islands controlled by Japan, but claimed by both Taiwan and China. And, then of course there's China. It's really hard to say how Taiwan would react...it's true that there's a treaty between TW and USA, but the current president Ma Ying Jiu is a little bitch who blows both USA and China's dicks. Let me clarify myself...I'm a mix between TW and USA and a US citizen, but I certainly don't want to see TW siding with anybody. No matter siding with China or the US, both ways could go horribly wrong, as the island is a critical strategic location...damn I don't even want to think about this, but it is likely someone will bomb the shit out of us... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 24872539 Taiwan 10/05/2012 05:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Blah blah blah. Look. There have already been clues as to where the U.S. really is on Taiwan. For decades the U.S.P.S. listed China as a separate country, Peoples Republic of China... And Taiwan as a separate country, R.O.C., Republic of China. The deal was struck on just who gets what in the coming re-configuration of the pie and the results transmitted for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear with when the U.S.P.S. dropped R.O.C., Republic of China (Taiwan) as a mail destination. It's all simply China now. Look for yourself. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 24872539 Taiwan 10/05/2012 05:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'll add a bit more. Here on the island there is a come what may attitude with regard to China, "taking, Taiwan, among very many. Not all, to be sure, but very many. If you will take a look at the history of what is called Taiwan you will embark on a very fascinating journey, and you will be rewarded and enriched by the knowledge you gain about another part of the world that may have been relatively unknown to you. Trust me. Take that journey, do some research, and there will be a multitude of, "I didn't know that,"(s). Many here would prefer a peaceful transition. Hong Kong survived (a different scenario, as that was a lease up situation). And thrived and thrives. Taiwan is a wonderful place, and the people here are very wonderful. I sincerely hope there is not violence in their future. I think of Taiwan as much a home as my birthplace country, the U.S. Perhaps even more so. Warm people, great food, artistic bents many exercised. And Americans live in the second house of wood in the three little pigs story.... 2x4s and drywall. Here the walls are of concrete and steel. I'm staying in a 17 story building and it would take a tactical nuke going off next door to get my attention. In the U.S. I'd hear neighbors moan and groan as the bed banged against that drywall... hear them fart and belch through the walls. That's but one reason I'm not in the U.S. and am here in Taiwan. |

Quoting: DL Keeping up with Allied carrier movements without the national technical means of a good second rate power is a bit difficult, however this link does help. [link to www.marinetraffic.com] I have a feeling that we are being stretched a bit thin. The one English and the one French carriers are now reported to be somewhere off Cyprus, no doubt to do with Syria. The UK carrier was in the Gulf on the big exercise just recently which means that the US strength there is reduced by it's removal. And with something bound to happen there very soon a lot of power needs to be in place. But perhaps that's been Obama's plan all along. |
