It takes 3.78 litres to make a gallon. so in the states i guess that would be about $4.30 a gallon. In Ontario when i moved i payed $1.42 a litre or $5.36 a Gallon so yea thats getting up there. When i first got out here a year ago gas was less than a dollar a litre and i didnt see that back home in Ontario for years prior to that. | lightchild_uk User ID: 22695992 10/05/2012 06:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The difference in the UK is that we have our life style because of high prices and poor public transport. Someone earlier in this thread mentioned about driving hours a few times a week to see their grandchildren in a football game. People in the UK don't do that sort of thing because of the high cost in fuel. Most people only make necessary journies like commuting and shopping for food. This article from 1 year ago [link to www.bbc.co.uk] "Drivers have cut their petrol consumption by more than 15% since the credit crunch and the recession. The AA has calculated that petrol sales in the first six months of 2011 were 1.7bn litres less than in the same period three years ago." Once I get home from work Friday night my car stays on the drive until Monday morning. Like most people I do not go out any more because of high fuel costs and it is killing our economy. One of the things I cannot understand is why people in the USA commute so far, why don't you just move nearer your place of work? How much time do you spend commuting everyday? A 60 mile commute for me would take 2.5 hours with the traffic. Public transport is not that good in the UK unless you live in a city and even then it is expensive. But as someone pointed out before at least we have free healthcare. |

Do not worry though since this is only temporarily going to mean 'little Timmy' needs to go without food. [link to www.zerohedge.com] |

To BUY anything Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21853831 BTW. i paid UDS $9.58303 for a US gallon of fuel today. At least you get great healthcare with your taxes. Many people are paying a grand a month just for basic health care. If we didn't have to pay exorbitant prices for health insurance we could afford more in gas as well. |

| Tazandra User ID: 22762080 10/05/2012 07:47 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What I would like to know is, why does the price of gas per gallon change just because I drive 20 minutes to a different location? Why is the exact same gasoline so much more expensive in California than it is compared to here in Missouri? Right now in Kansas City, Missouri gas is $3.59 a gallon. In Kansas City, Kansas gas is $3.64 a gallon. People living or working by the Kansas/Missouri border on the Kansas side will drive the few blocks over to the Missouri side to buy the cheaper gas. It's ridiculous. The gas doesn't change just because it's in a different state. We come to love not by finding the perfect person ... but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly. | CitizenX1 User ID: 14244049 10/05/2012 08:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok, so I just talked to two gas station managers that I'm pretty cool with, one from Shell, another from Alliance. The Shell manager I talked to this morning, she said that gas could go up to $6 but that she wasn't sure in how long, thought she said not very long. The one from Alliance who is the one I just talked to about an hour ago, said that it's going up to $5 for sure. But here's what he told me that kinda set off my DOOM sirens, he said that by Monday, most gas station will be closing, if not all. I asked him if it was just Alliance, or if it was all companies, and he said it was all. He said they've been losing around $5000 each day the past 2 days and that they can't go on like that. I asked him if he knew how long they would be closing down for, and he said he didn't know, that no one knew. That they were waiting on the GOV to step in and "regulate" what is happening. Those were his exact words. When I asked him why we were not hearing about this on the news, he said that they don't tell us anything. They don't even tell him much until it is about to happen. But that he was already told to be prepared to close down by Monday indefinately if the GOV didn't do anything by then. I am in Souther Cali, in Orange County by the way. Just an FYI. By the way, I gotta give thanks to both those managers, because they both waited until I got gas before raising the prices. Shell raised it .15 cents and Alliance raised it .10 cents right after I pumped. They both told me they were about to raise them, but that they would wait until I got my gas. If you can, I would fill up as soon as possible. DOOM! always near, never here. |

Your answer does nothing to address the health effects that the drilling in Louisiana has caused the people there, so that they can share their oil with the rest of the country. If the rest of the country wants certain states to take those risks, then they should be prepared to pay 3 or 4 more times the price for what they need in order to mitigate the damages that always occur to those unlucky slobs who happen to be sitting on top of what everyone else wants and needs. |
