What's the minimum wage in Germany ? Probably 100 dollars an hour and they can hop on a bullet train and get to anywhere in Europe in 20 minutes and retire @40 & free health care & are allowed to drink as least a quart of beer on their lunch break. Free education 4 months of vacation a year. Meanwhile in California gasoline is so costly many are not going to work=net loss.

Nothin goin on here in NJ. Gas is $3.85 and it's business as usual! Did just top off my tank though, just in case...

That's because California has a special blend of child's blood in our gas, so we have a shortage in California while other states don't have such bullshit in their gas and do not have a shortage.

Every time someone in EU mentions that I have to ask this... What do you consider a long trip? I have to drive 60 miles round trip just to get groceries. Spaces and towns are a bit farther apart in the USA.
 Quoting: MaryAlananB

I know, it pisses me off when I read that too. Not only are things more spread out here, for the most part we DO NOT have much in the way of public transportation. In the area where I live unless you are going to a few specific towns, there is no train service. Bus service is awful and sparse. My husband's commute is 120 miles round trip. How many of you in EU have a commute like that?
 Quoting: INK3

well apes there is people in europe that live away from groceries and have to do 100 km round trip....but they are not that mental to go everyday, not even once a week...organize yourself, shop local, produce something and stfu

I doesn't even pass my mind to do even 30 km if not a couple of time a month

Gas here (Vermont) is 3.99 a gallon...not as much as in California, but that's high for here. We've been keeping the vehicle full.

Gas is a commodity traded on the market like wheat or pork bellies. It just so happens to also be a national security issue if it races upwards like commodities sometimes do.
Cities can erupt in violence, businesses can fail and regimes can fall along with this commodity index should it become too volatile. Welcome to the beginning of the end of our entitlement prosperity (that supposedly entitles Americans to non-market forces) should it spiral out if control.

Looks like California is now a battleground state. This "crisis" is going to sway a lot of voters against the status quo.

Nothing changed here in Arizona yet. This could spread to other states. Arizona gets a lot of its fuel from California. I filled up last night as a precaution.
Wizard's Rule #1: "People are stupid. Given proper motivation, almost anyone will believe almost anything. People will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or because they are afraid it might be true. People’s heads are full of knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think it all true. People can only rarely tell the difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they can, and so are all the easier to fool."

Re: Tweets from around the U.S. " long lines at gas stations right now!" Panic buying! Fights!
The gas crisis in Cali is the result of a combination of things, however, their legislature brought about most of it from pushing carbon credits and attempting to force people to go with other, greener options. Read the article below

[link to www.truckinginfo.com]

In addition, I would like to address the cries about the credit card industry having something to do with this. Yes, they charge to run the cards through the system, why shouldn't they? It's business, a business that merchants CHOSE to use in order to sell more, at least on the cc end, for impulse purchasing. They enjoy much higher sales and faster transactions at the cash register which translates into more sales simply because they can run more people through than if they were writing checks.
I'm no fan of the banks at all, but this is a legitimate way to run a profit generating business and it employs thousands and thousands of people across the country, most who have nothing to do with the banks otherwise.
The merchants did get together and sue the card companies, they forced them to show their profit and stated that they would lower their prices for the public if cc prices weren't so high, they haven;t and they never had any intention of doing so. they used the legislature to force the cc companies to lower prices, FOR THEIR BENEFIT, not yours.
Can you imagine walking into a shoe store and demanding to know what their profit margin was?

Makes absolutely no sense to compare the prices in Europe with the prices in the US.

In my country we have to pay 1.89 per liter, a quick calculation says that's around 9.50$ per gallon. But most of the money we pay for it goes directly to state, who uses the money for public transport, healthcare and much more.

enjoy [link to www.fuel-prices-europe.info]

this will help you to resize your problem

and don't be fooled...many of those countries minimum wage it is half to one third of the american one and outside core countries in EU you are not even buying standard gas...but in order to keep the price lower they put lot of ethanol and other chemicals. When you fill your car and put they feet on the gas you hear that carburation sound that tells you that It will burns so fast but probably your car will die before

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24957083

Yeah, as soon as everyone is desperate enough for gas in any form, even if it destroys your engine, they'll roll out the surprise that all gas should have 15 percent ethanol.

"By federal mandate, ethanol makes up about 10 percent of most fuel that motorists buy at the pump. Unfortunately for ethanol makers, Americans are driving fewer miles and upgrading to more efficient cars.

So ethanol makers want to change the longstanding recipe, and they are trying to persuade gas stations and motorists to buy fuel that is 15 percent ethanol, or E15. In the summer of 2012, a service station in Lawrence, Kans., became the first in the nation to offer the new blend for regular cars.

Ethanol advocates acknowledge that it will be difficult to persuade motorists to fill up with E15. Although the Environmental Protection Agency has approved the fuel for cars with a model year of 2001 and later, most major automakers are warning customers to stay away, saying they are unconvinced that it is safe for engines. And the modifications necessary for a gas station to offer E15 may cost tens of thousands of dollars — a steep deterrent to station owners who have no idea whether the fuel will appeal to customers."

The gas prices in the US are ridiculously cheap compared to the litre price of approx. 1,75€ Germany, let alone some European countries with even higher prices like the Netherlands or Norway.

I have no clue whatsoever why you should panick due to such laughable prices per gallon in your country, which, by the way, literally controls the world's oil prices by its military might and it's epic financial fraud via a completely manipulated $ value.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4865758

we EU usualy have many times more smaller distances than Usa
even with more expensive gas we pay many times less money a day to go to our jobs (what ever has left of them).
They usualy drive 40-50 miles a day for their jobs or basic
services, and thats a lot of money per day even with cheaper gas.

I live in remote (remote means 5 miles from downtown)suburb
Athens Greece.

My job is less than a mile near, inside this cycle i have more than 10 smaller and big grocery stores, electrics, tools, clothes (clothes shops dye like flies), and whatenever you need IF you have the money.

Bigger stores like liddle praktiker mediamrkt or greek firms
are inside a cycle of 2-2,5 miles.

I can do anything with a bicycle or even walking if needed.

Gas around 1,7-1,8 per liter. Ofcourse you still have many
who work far distances like 4-5 or 10miles but they are fewer and thats it.
