Nothin goin on here in NJ. Gas is $3.85 and it's business as usual! Did just top off my tank though, just in case...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5240732

That's because California has a special blend of child's blood in our gas, so we have a shortage in California while other states don't have such bullshit in their gas and do not have a shortage.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24957083

Massachusetts has the same exact blend as Cali for a fact and their prices are always 30 cents cheaper.

Start buying gas from small independent gas station instead of big companies. Show them who is in charge and they will drop the price.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23570095

In California the small independent gas stations are out of fuel. They are being pinched by the big boys and in my opinion are being purposely put out of business to complete the Cali monopoly of the big three Satan Oil. They manufactured a fake shortage just like Enron.

Makes absolutely no sense to compare the prices in Europe with the prices in the US.

In my country we have to pay 1.89 per liter, a quick calculation says that's around 9.50$ per gallon. But most of the money we pay for it goes directly to state, who uses the money for public transport, healthcare and much more.

Whats it feel like to pay real prices eh???

I just calculated the real price we in england are paying for Diesel for instance.

You dont read this on GLP because the conversion is not that simple, so most dont bother.

september 2012 UK diesel price = 145ppl (pence per Litre)
so thats £1.45 per litre. I converted the litres to US gallons and then converted the pounds sterling to US dollars, the result is $8.84 a gallon. Thats what we pay for diesel.

have a nice day,.

Like how big is England? How many Englands can fit in Texas? When you have to travel over 60 miles EACH way to work, at least that far, gas is a major factor in a person's life.

Don't keep comparing countries where you can swing a cat over your head and touch another country, to the USA.

have a great day.

Bingo! BTW, how many people in the Netherlands have a commute that's over 100 miles per day? I'd bet not many, and if they, they can take public transport. We don't have that here.

The size of a country is not important, but how many miles/km's are driven at average.
In the Netherlands and Germany the average number of km's driven in a year is 13.000 roughly,Canada 15.000 km in the US the number of miles 12.500. So people in Europe really spend more on gas than you assume, has nothing to do with size of the country, they drive for business and holiday all over Europewhatever

Average distance between work and job of a german commuter is ~44 kM (= 28 Miles) (half time of yours) and Germany fits two times into Texas (half size of yours). The proportionality is the same.

Why the hell don't you move nearer to your job?

How the fuck does gas cost 10 cents more if you use creditcards?

wtf?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24817500

"processing fee" for use of the credit card machine, and the companies that process the transaction.

Re: Tweets from around the U.S. " long lines at gas stations right now!" Panic buying! Fights!
And just a little food for thought for those in other countries complaining that Americans are babies whining about gas prices, etc.

As someone who's been to Europe enough, I know that alternative modes of transportation (such as biking, walking, trollies, and public transportation buses, subways, etc.) are much more prominent than they are in the US. Sadly, the United States doesn't have a massive transit system in place, except for a few large cities, and not everyone can use a bike to get around in their area.

Thus why we use cars more than say... people in Holland.

It's a beat situation, and most Americans are hurting as it is by not making enough money to support their families, themselves, etc. Now, add to that growing fuel costs to get a person to said low-paying job, it just adds insult to injury..

My commute's been about the same regardless of country. It's the distance between affordable decent housing and a metropolis with living wage paying jobs.

Prices are 3/4 a difference and damn.
Now imagine 3x $ per gallon vs 2012 prices.
