Anonymous Coward User ID: 47217 United States 01/23/2006 08:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Freyja, Yes, Christianity does teach a duality between light and darkness, good and evil. And I think that this duality reflects the truth ... though in the past I was indeed in the other camp of "nonduality." Duality meaning that "evil" has a separate innate existence apart from God and God's pure Being. As to the origin of this duality, infinite books and speculations have been penned from every persuasion, including Christian. This is the age-old question regarding the purpose and origin of good and evil. "Free will" is one of the common arguments or porposed solutions, but there are many problems associated with that as well. But just to be fair, many non-Christian and esoteric philosphies also teach duality -- in Hinduism there are dualist and non-dualists schools of thought. Certainly western occultism such as Rosicrucianism teaches duality, and the existence of evil as a separate force to be resisted and transcended. And most of all, gnostics are dualists -- they even believe the physical material world and the flesh is evil, created by a lesser Demiurge who entrapped souls in flesh. It amuses me when gnostics decry Christianity for its dualism and for YHWH being evil -- because gnosticism is the ultimate in dualism. No "oneness of all" taught there! It's a mistake to think that most esoteric or occult thought is non-dualistic. Mystical thought is more along the lines that all beings share an innate ontological divine identity. Even the Bible could be said to hint at that ... man was created in the image and likeness of God. But it extends that to saying that something "happened" to distort that image of God -- the so-called "fall of man" from some original state into one now dominated by sin, illusion, and separation. And there are many parallels to that in gnosticism and occultism. I think this entire discussion about duality versus non-duality is defined by what level of reality of the divine plan one observes it from. I believe that ultimately all things will be re-gathered into One via Christ. But that comes from God identifying with man and raising man -- not man "striving" or evolving through some innate capacity or inclination. This is grace ... not karma. |

[24] For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. [25] Behold, I have told you before. [26] Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. I know you were taking a jab at Christians when you made your post, but this statement of yours is quite thought-provoking. If there were no punishments and no rewards, would I still follow, obey, and love God for no other reason than because it is the right thing to do? Would I still seek to love my neighbor as myself solely because it is right? Even if when all was said and done, I would not go to either heaven or hell? Of course, I do believe there will be a judgment with punishments and rewards meted out, but still your comment was most thought-provoking. |

Armageddon, rapture, the anit-christ....if only they knew(-: What would Jesus think today...NOT that he is coming back!!!!. He would be ashamed of a lot of people. [8] Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. [9] But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was." As ever, quoting from the bible. People of all faiths are forever quoting from their own good book, so how can we possibly know which one is the truth, they all think their version is the truth. I have no doubt that there will be some truth in the bible,as there will be in the quoran, but the bible has been corrupted so many times throughout history, that to actually nail down which is truth and which is false is going to be a tough job. Unless of course you have blind faith, which means you can be led to believe in anything. As for me, I shall keep seeking truth within books, then seek to go beyond that point. |

Brandon User ID: 4696241 United States 11/05/2011 03:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am a Christian. I used to be happy believing what I believed and letting others do the same. It occurred to me that if I truly believed in a Heaven and Hell and God and eternal life then I had a duty to THEM to share my understanding. In the same way, perhaps, as I would want to share my knowledge about a portal to a parallell utopian dimension. I feel like people should be free to worship or not worship whomever they choose. I also cannot stop telling others that the portal exists, even if they are disinterested in my message, because I believe they are in danger. I try to spread my message by the way I live, not by preaching at someone. My God has to be ashamed of the church today. With it's constant attitude of condemnation, "club member" type snobiness and fear of being associated with people that don't fit the mold. Christ hung out with sinners and rebuked the Pharisees and Saducees for living as religious hypocrites. That's what we as Christians should be doing, living like Jesus did. It's no wonder people dont want any part of Christianity, they see Christians as complete hypocrites. Until we can get back to trying to live lives modeled after Jesus, the church is going to continue to lose the faith of the communities in which they reside. |
