Frankly I would love to go to Russia- The wife and I have spoke very seriously about trying to make the move.

The problem , it seems is that its quite difficult to get residency there. It was a while ago when I looked but you need a very steady income before even moving there temporarily and the chance for any citizenship is pretty slim.

I know the feeling though. Russia has far more freedoms now than we have in the USA- You can "live" there and unless you are a blatant idiot you probably will not end up in a jail.

In the USA I am regularly stopped, searched and harassed.My Russian friends find it hard to believe how bad its getting here while they are becoming more free, decriminalizing drugs and generally being a pretty decent nation to live in-

Because I wish to keep my options open.

Very true- There is also a very strong "russian mafia" which regularly assassinates newpaper reporters and such.

-That said, they are still far more free than we are here in USA. Our Police are corrupt as well, but even the non corruptible ones trample folks rights daily, throw people in prison for non violent offences, etc.

I can deal with corrupt law Enforcement better than a corrupt SYSTEM (as a whole)- The Wild West in the USA has very corrupt societies yet they were also very FREE. My pointg is, I want Freedom more than safty from corrupt people.

NZ would be cool- canada, not so much.Better than the States (but that is a no brainer) but not a whole lot of difference in reality. Living in Michigan I used to go to Canada all the time at 19 (which was the drinking age) when it was 21 here. Used to get a really good amount of Canadian money for my American (great exchange rate)hit the drug store for 222s (or T3s when they were OTC) and have a blast.

-Still though, I think its not that much better than the States. the people are more informed and intelligent and its a bit more lax but...

-Well all I know (having never been there) is what I gather comparing notes with friends who do live there (some of which went to University here ) and it sounds much better than the USA concerning freedoms (what I personally consider freedoms I guess-)

The ONLY Westerners that go to China and make it were sent there by a Western company to work for that company. When that job is gone the Westerner leaves China, unable to survive otherwise.

You will not go there and start any business or work as a Chinese citizen competing with over 1 billion Chinese. They dont even survive that well.
