Costa Rica as a whole is a very enlightened country. A long time stable democracy in the Latin world. High literacy rates and more teachers than policemen. They are a peaceful, loving people who value family and friends above material pursuits. Pura Vida- meaning "life is good!" is the unofficial national mantra. Costa Rica is a great place and I'm prud to be 1/2 CR.

A friend of mine spent time there and said they have an ideal balance, not even a flea problem for his dog because they have a balance of nature there.

Hey Brief if you don't like it, don't go there. Go to some specialty animal preserve where you can shoot all the animals you want inside a fence, trapped like fish in a barrel. Let Costa Rica have peace and environmental balance.

You're right though, it's not enough, to stop hunting them, you must also plant food bearing bushes and trees for them, as reparations, and give them some of their land back.

I look at this from a practical point of view and a good decision on the part of Costa Rica.

For years they have been getting an influx of gringos who decide to take up residency in the country. There will be many more who are going to bail in the near future and Costa Rica is and always has been an attractive destination. All of C. America for that matter.

The wild life in Costa Rica is awesome...biodiversity is incredible. It is a hunter's paradise. Alot of the people who decide to move to C America are the adventurous and resourceful type and alot of them are Sports Fishermen and Hunters. They can't wait to have their guns shipped in in a container when they bring the rest of their belongings, and maybe bag some of that prized game.

I think everybody realises that in the very near future, the gringos that are able, will be leaving in droves and many of them have their eyes on CR and Nicaragua.

Good thing to tighten up the ship before they get there.
