Because you first pump crude oil then you move it to a refinery then you refine it, then you refine it some more, then you have to have a built and maintained gas station waiting to receive it when the tanker shows up.
The people involved in all parts of the process need to get paid so they have a reason to go to work?

The price of gasoline is fairly constant, but the "cash" in your pocket is losing value, Dollar,Pound,Euro, Yen or whatever.

Why don’t you people start reading. There is a series of refinery problems due to fire damage, limited supply, retooling form Summer to Winter blends etc. The problems should be resolved shortly but Kalifornia refuses to allow more refineries in the State, mandate ridiculous “blend” requirements (or they could just ship from other refineries), etc. When you walk a knifes edge on the supply / demand game sometimes you are going to get burned.

It stuns me that no one seems to understand where the energy they rely on for daily existence comes from or how it is produced/refined. Instead they sit around and bitch about its someone else’s fault. It’s not. Just look in the fucking mirror for the problem.

BTW diesel is high this time of year due to retooling for the production of winter heating oil.

Cali supplies water to 3 states, power all the way to Colorado, food to every state in the U.S., education to millions of nonresidents, etc. Our economy is vital, even as trashed as it is. Our agriculture is all that saved the mid west this year. I deal in hay and I can tell you for the time in several years there is no extra hay in the barns here. We sold millions of tons to the mid west and foreign countries to keep their cattle/horses/sheep/goats alive. Because of that, I used to get alfalfa for 175/ton, now it's 365/ton. All because we saved a lot of other people and now we're paying the price for it. That's the whole reason behind the massive cattle slaughter the day after Bernanke printed that last 1 trillion. He promised to subsidize the meat markets because they would lose money by putting so much meat into the market at once but they couldn't find feet to keep their cattle going until late october like normal.

If I own a department store I need to make a profit but I can't ask for so much that I drive people away UNLESS I have something that people CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT. So...as a gas company, they'r bragging and letting everybody know they're doing EXTREMELY well. In the hundreds of billions in profits. As a department store owner if I want to expand my store or retile the bathrooms or paint the exterior or a move to a new and bigger location, I can't raise the prices drastically on all my merchandise to do that. Like I said, I'll drive away customers. So, I have to be business smart and look at the profits I've made and saved over time. Just like the gas companies. They've made hundreds of billions. So...their "Good business sense" says they have plenty of money to draw on for a few million dollar projects here and there, a few million dollar shortages here and there. However, instead of drawing from their savings and profits like every other company in the world must do, they just raise prices on everybody to pay for their expenses! The ONLY REASON they can do this is because of weak spined presidents who REFUSE to defend the American working family from price gouging. This is a resource that we HAVE to have and they know it. So, instead of placing a limit on it like they should...our presidents buy into the oil companies and make money off our hardships! Democrat and republican alike!

Dollar is based on oil if u want cheap oil - stop printing dollars. This increases prices all around world.
And will be worse, they cant stop printing because of debt system. So u need to make more oil wars to gain more sources. If not, prices will rise because there will be to much dollars to cover less oil!
