Thousands of Americans in 23 states at risk of deadly meningitis - 5 Dead so far from laced steroid injections
Thousands of patients who got steroid injections in 23 US states may be at risk of acquiring the rare fungal infection meningitis, which has left five people dead in the latest outbreak.

The fungus has so far sickened 35 Americans who took steroid shots for back pain across six US states. The spinal injections contained a sealed vial of the steroid methylprednisolone acetate, which the US Food and Drug Administration found contains the fungus.

Check the website. The recall has spread to IV solutions, lidocaine, and many other substances. Who knows how many thousands of people might die from this. This is real doom.

Agenda 21 - multiple bio attacks

New SARs
Ebola
West Nile
etc

Each takes a bite but not a massive panademic

Public concerned but no panic / hysteria

Maintain relatively low kill rate so that no massive campaign launched to develop vaccines.

Forty-seven people in seven states are now confirmed to have fungal meningitis, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Friday, 12 more than the day before.

The death toll hasn't risen. So far, five people have died after having a preservative-free steroid called methylprednisolone acetate contaminated by a fungus injected into their spine. Michigan, the latest state to find patients sickened by the drug is reporting four cases.

Hey, Dorrbert! I asked on the other thread, but no one answered. I'm hoping you might know. Has anyone come down with this meningitis with out getting the injections? Has it spread to the public, yet? I haven't been able to find anything. Thanks.

Re: Thousands of Americans in 23 states at risk of deadly meningitis - 5 Dead so far from laced steroid injections
Health experts are bracing for more people to become sick with fungal meningitis in the coming days. Worse is that doctors are dealing with an incredibly rare illness that is complicated to treat.

What makes it tricky is doctors still don't know exactly with what they're dealing. Experts have identified one fungus at work in this deadly meningitis outbreak, but the health department said Friday it is likely there is more than one type of fungus involved.

That could make the treatment for patients even more complicated.

Thanks! I've been exposed to other types of meningitis over the years that were contagious. It seems that this one isn't. I appreciate you checking, I get lost on the CDC's site, too many places to go!LOL

Re: Thousands of Americans in 23 states at risk of deadly meningitis - 5 Dead so far from laced steroid injections
Federal health officials have expanded the recall list of potentially contaminated injectable medications suspected in a multi-state meningitis outbreak and the death of five people. More and more cases are being reported, with 47 people having contracted meningitis in seven states.

The Food and Drug Administration released a list of 34 different drugs this morning that included steroids, epidural anesthetics used to block pain during childbirth, and surgery and saline solutions that are compounded to make different medications. All of the products on the recall list were made by the New England Compound Center (NECC) in Framingham, Mass., and are administered by injection into the spine. ..

..The Centers for Disease Control and FDA have asked the clinics, doctors offices and hospitals in 23 states that have received shipments of medications from NECC to stop using them immediately. Anyone who has received epidural injections since July 1 should watch for symptoms of meningitis. Health officials say the most common symptoms are worsening headache, fever, stiff neck, trouble walking or falling and progressing back pain. Many of these patients have suffered strokes.

The number of people stricken with a rare form of meningitis linked to steroid injections rose to 50 in seven U.S. states, authorities said on Friday, in a widening outbreak that has killed at least five people.

Michigan said it had confirmed six cases of fungal meningitis, the seventh state to report people falling ill after receiving the injections, mainly for back pain.

Other states with cases are Tennessee, Virginia, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina and Indiana.

ATLANTA -- No infections have been reported here yet, but 189 Georgia patients received steroid injections in Macon that may have been contaminated with a deadly fungal meningitis.

Thursday, it became apparent that hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of people who got the affected shots between July and September could be at risk.

The potential scope of the meningitis outbreak that has killed at least five people widened Thursday as health officials warned that hundreds, perhaps thousands, of patients who got steroid back injections in 23 states could be at risk.

By Andrea K. Walker, The Baltimore Sun
8:15 p.m. EDT, October 5, 2012

Maryland could see new cases of meningitis for a month or more as health officials continue to search for new and past cases of the disease, which has sickened 50 people in several states who received injections of a tainted steroid.

In the cases health officials are already aware of, the incubation period for the infections has been between two days and four weeks, but it's possible the period could be even longer for some, said Dr. Lucy Wilson, chief of Maryland's infection prevention and outbreak response program. Health officials are basing their estimate on the existing cases, but it could change, Wilson said.tiphat [link to www.baltimoresun.com]

Some types of meningitis are contagious and very serious--like the ones that spread in barracks. This fungus is present in every refrigerator more than a few years old, and occasionally causes lung or skin diseases--usually amongst the immune suppressed folks. Fungal meningitis is definitely NOT contagious.
In his book, "Between Two Ages," Brzezinski wrote: "The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values."
