thanks for taking the time to write this..without diminishing the importance of your narrative I can say I have figured this out for some time...have tried numerous times to "get out" but the conundrum is that you can't do it alone and you need money (participation)to get out...one's only real hope is to gain enough resources to "buy out" (land, developed self-sufficiency and establishing a Trust)...but then once one gets to that point they are often ensnared by the comforts and convenience they have become used to and continue in...yep, we are cornered...the only solution i can see must happen in mass, and that is real simple (not so simple to get over our addictions to comfort and convenience) STOP PARTICIPATING!....I've got a small house and a couple of acres in Indiana with wood heat and solar...animal pens, garden...anybody want to go?

Anyway, that's the gist of my "Mother of All Conspiracies"...I'm running out of space and I'm sure no one's read this far anyway.

I like your post, believe true for the most part. Some of the intent that you claim has occurred may not be as planned as you think. Like you say, any organism tries to survive by any means necessary. Some times that is by a non-planned action.

The reason why people moved away from crafting their own things was because of something called "comparative advantage". It's a basic economic principal that says that a group of people can produce more overall if each person specializes in what they are good at.

If you were born an had nothing and didn't trade, do you honestly think you would have figured out how to build a computer and put it in your "residency" (that you built yourself) and get on the internet right now?

Same as economy of scales...the question is, do we need all this shit.

True, we don't need junk in our lives, meaning there is no need to create it. Some things, for sure, are important. Certain medicines need to be constructed in a laboratory setting, and can't be done by know-how alone. One could argue that those who need such care are destined to die, and truly, we are attempting to play god by defying mortality. I'm not here to speculate on that point, but I will acknowledge that it is there.

We do not, however, need television. Computers. DVD players. Certainly, these things are great in and of themselves, and provide us with art end entertainment but they comprise part of a much larger problem; rampant consumerism. Technological advances are fantastic. No one is arguing that architectural and electronic technology isn't a beautiful and wondrous thing, but the extent to which these technologies are used and abused far outweigh the amount to which they are actually needed in most cases.
